1965 Dodge Dart Charger

-
I checked old pictures and my old clips and it seems like they were painted from the factory. Thanks for the help.

My clips on my 66 Valiant were coated, then installed before the car was painted, my car has 54,*** miles so alot was untouched before I messed with it :toothy8:

Thanks Keith! I will try to peel off the paint from my old clips. Mounted the last hood hinge and it just looks good. The hood is the next thing to deal with. The hood is straight but after the old owners closed tthe hood in 80MPH the steel on underneathneeds to be adjusted.

The brackets for the bolts for the hood needs to be placed too. Will continue tomorrow to get the hood in place.

Today I had a really nice conversation with a gentleman who worked at the St Louis plant from 1964 in the paint dept. Boy did I get some really interesting information.

The cars came body-in-white to paint dept meaning no paint or nothing at all. After the cleaning process the cars was getting red primer. After that and a trip through the cleaning bath the next layer came on. Some kind of green/gray primer. After that the final paint was added.

I will check tomorrow on my old front valence panel to see if the routines were the same for the LA plant.

Today arrived the small freeze plugs I have searched for for almost 4 years!! The bushing for the steering box and the pitman arm got here too. Will be a great day tomorrow.

I started out today to mount the hood stops. I can only do one since the other one is getting correct finish. The nuts included. But it sure looks good.

The battery tray is another issue. I have bought reproduced brackets and tray but they are way out of factory specs! I found two brackets in great shape but the tray has evidence of rust even after I glass beaded it. Does some one have a mint used battery tray for sale? The reproduced ones is much more smoother then the factory one. I will put my set up for sale.

The clips for the power steering pressure hose is done with right finish and the nut and bolt is there. Just need to find Plastisol. Searched all over but not finding any!

The choke unit on the manifold is done too so I will add that later on.

Finally the hood is in place. It looks great with new bolts and restored springs too. I think the gap between the hood and the cowl is ok too. Can hardly how it will look when the fenders and the front valence panel is in place.

you may wanna put some sort of a primer on there, looks as if the hood is already flash rusting:silent:

Yes, you're right. As the factory did I will put on red primer in a while. But I need all the small stuff there too. Then it will be green epoxy primer on top of the red. Then the factory procedure is copied by the book.

Today I disassembled the power steering pump. It was in good condition with only needs of new gaskets and O-rings. I found out that the brackets was attached to the reservoir before the paint was applayed. The cap was without paint but was painted from the factory. One paint mark was found. One yellow one just underneath the filling pipe. Did the paintjob so tomorrow it would be as new again.

Do I have your car in my register? I have four of them produced March 17, April 19, June 8 and June 14. They were released and promoted from April 1st. Congrats to a really unusual car. Send me a PM with all the info and you can be part of the register.

Ulf, when you painted the power steering pump, did you paint it with the cap on it, so the top edge/lip of the resivor is raw metal? That is how Chrysler did it. Looks nice!!

Keith! I did that. Even if I found evidence of paint up to neck!

Today I started to do the front end. Did the both sides of tie rods except one that is missing! Hmmmm

Then on to the brake system. I started with a messy brake booster and now it looks real good after some glass beading. The paint will do the rest and I'm looking forward for tomorrow to see the result. Found out that the nuts on the underside holding the brake booster was yellow dichromate. Just if someones wonder! Did some bolts, nuts and clamps too.
