1966 273 Commando - Thoughts

Such as? (asking as I really don't know what those would be to go and quiz the seller, who swears its a true Commando)

No real way to tell, these are the dress up parts along with a different solid cam, the dual point cast iron dual point distributor, 10.5 to one pistons, AFB carb and intake.

I have a 904 that was attached to the 273 garbage block that was in the Dart when I bought it.
you are all good with that posted engine if the work matches the description. It would be perfect for that little convertible...Im done with this thread but good luck with your project sounds like a nice one. A 69 Convertible is a great year and body style!

Ted Spehar propelled the little 275 HP superstocker to 106 MPH at 12.91. If you need more than that in a convertible you might need a bigger engine. $4700 is a fair price unless you are a machinist and can do the work yourself. Is it a chunk of change? Yes but it's done and looks great. Best of luck with the project!
Ya Ted Spehr ain't building your engine and you ain't going 12's with your 273. For $4,700.00 bucks I'd be looking for a 340 and you never regret it. All you really need is a block and a forged crank and a set of heads all the other parts are going to cost the same.

Good point it may have started out as a Commando engine unless I am reading the post wrong... but now that it is going into a Dart...It would be a Dart Charger application
This isn't true. Bought my 66 Dart new and it's a 273 Commando.

take a nap buddy. You are awfully cranky. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That is what the original poster is asking for. Everyone's opinion not just yours. Ted did it with a stock engine and he was the driver so I really don't know what your talking about here. You wouldn't know anything about our cars.

I'm not at all familiar with 273 motors, but "Heads 1.88 Intake and 1.60 exhaust" sound like 360 LA heads to me. Wouldn't the 273 require smaller combustion chambers? I'd verify what compression ratio you're actually going to get by getting the casting number for a Cc estimate against the piston compression numbers. Does seem like a lot for basically a fresh motor with a cam and aluminum intake. Just my .02 worth.

On a minor note, you would need to drill one of the engine mount holes in the block.
If he is putting a 273 in a 67 the 273 / 318 mounts should bolt on and in, no modification needed am I missing something?

No sweat, glad to save you $$ and a headache. Call Nigel at National Moparts(won't be cheap) or post a want add?
I have a 273 on the stand and I'm contemplating new domed pistons, so your thread caught my eye.
Thank you VERY much. I am pulling th eplug on this option and will continue to look around for an engine. I really appreciate you showing me that.
