1966 Factory V8 Valiant Signet Restoration For My Other Daughter

-
that wheel looks great, have you done this before or first attempt? Certainly looks like you knew what you were doing, not just having a go! Being a trimmer by trade I normally wrap all my wheels in leather. Partly because a like a modern style fat-ish wheel!

First one.

Jim you are a true artist !
A perfectionist !
Detail oriented !

and a really talented guy !

Yeah sure a really talented guy wouldn’t have dropped his damn AC compressor and destroyed it just trying to paint it

Edelbrock quality! Bruce Toth went through the heads for the valves and a little bit of porting and my machine shop buddy made the head flat. One down one to go.

That steering wheel looks amazing. You do next level work. You have me a little concerned about my wheel restoration now. I didn't heat mine after the Epoxy was added. Hoping it doesn't shrink and develop more cracks now that it's painted.

Can't wait to see this car finished. Also, I was right, you'll probably have 2 cars done to beyond show quality in the time it's taken me to make mine a nice driver. Keep up the amazing work. Its inspiring.

82,000 holes drilled to get some speaker vents in the 66 Valiant signet package tray and touched up with a little black SEM paint and it looks almost factory. I think the backseats got a little warp in it I have to take it back out and do a little custom bending to get her flat. The Signet interior material has been very unique. It does add texture and class to the interior for sure.

The photographs make it look much grayer than it is it’s really black and the holes are almost unnoticeable.

Anybody want to guess what’s the best way to make your back ordered your one wiring harness come in? Install the original and put it back together……. So new rear harness, tail lights and rear bulbs in, harness for the bulb in the console in.. Installed the new fasteners that are reasonably correct for the console mounting. Turn signal switch wiring installed in the new connector and plugged in blinkers all working, horns are working other than the horns are sick and sound horrible.. Mocked up the AC box, I have a couple vanes that I lost but I have a new donor vent in the mail from someone on FABO. bottom line the interiors done. Which is good because the motor will be finished early next week so I’m gonna have to get my butt going on that.

Engine getting close. Should be done to pick up Friday. Dropped compressor re-restored and shot with epoxy primer. Two girls anxious for the Valiant to run.

Small back step on the 360 Commando. The generic FelPro intake gaskets would work but they look like crap. Pulled it back apart and ordered Edlebrock so they match the intake. Also masked and painted the head that is showing above the intake. Gaskets tomorrow, bring it home Friday. Happy owner.

Jim, great job as always! Can you feel us in on some of the specs on your 360 (cam, compression, ect)? I think this thing is going to be a little rocket that runs as good as it looks.

Complex story. Started out with 9.6:1 but the pistons had a surprise shelf for quench on stock heads. I needed the heads with the relief but the heads I got where some of the last on the planet and did not have the relief so we decided to just put a thicker Chomeric gasket on and be done. It’s a cruiser. It is just under 9:1 now but with a nice 0.38” quench so it should not ping. The cam is a custom torque cam from Oregon cams that dies out around 5k, just like the performer intake.

Another quality build from Jim, taking the build to the Nth degree. APPLAUSE for Jim & his attention to detail.

Spent the last few evenings fighting the K Frame. I knew something was amiss as the RH control arm would not set flush on the pin. One of the accidents must have pulled back on the LCA and collapsed the front of the K Frame hole where the strut rod goes through so it was holding the LCA back. A few rounds with the big ball peen hammer and the correct shape of Face of the K Frame emerged. It sets flush now. Put the spindles on the correct sides so the calipers are to the front. Wondered why the stock brake hoses would not work previously. Duh.

Ready for big Red Commando to come home tomorrow!!!!!!
