1967 k member upgrades (idler)

You won’t have problems with the narrow 14” rims and tires.

You need to run sway bar adapter to run those sway bar bushings. That will lower the sway bar some too.

A lot of 72 A-bodies 318 and even /6 had small bolt 8 3/4 rears. Like they were dumping them knowing they would never be used in 1973 and later.

Thanks for the post. I’m going to try the stock sway bar and if the ride is not tight enough I will swap over to the 73 style and up sway bar and utilize the pocket in the Kmember. I appreciate the link to the bushings!!!

With those rims and tires you won’t have interference at sway bar.

I completed the work to the k memeber. I have posted the pictures below and more in the next post. I Seam Welded all-the-way-around on the 50 year oil soaked car part. It has it challenges. There was a lot of contaminates in the seams. I used a propane torch to heat the edges to burn out the oil. I was conservative and only heated the edge and skipped around the paremeter avoid warpage. This helped some but not 100%. Your welds will look nasty and riddled with personify....just Grind them out 2-3 times to get a clean weld.

I then moved to adding plates to the lower control arm and steering box mount.

Templates cut. I went larger than just a washer to spread out any localized stress to al larger area....can’t hurt.

Do not use sheet metal any thicker than .120 or the lower control arm will be too short. Grind everting flush so the washer and bolt for the LCA has a good seat.

Remember to wear safety glasses. Although I was wearing mine I find myself at the eye doctor this afternoon to get this foreign body removed. Still worth it.

Remember to wear safety glasses when welding and grinding or you will buy yourself a trip to the eye doctor.
