1969 Match Race ~ 'Cuda 383 vs. 'Cuda 340

-
1968 Barracuda, 383, 300hp factory. NHRA factored to 295hp. 1968 Barracuda, 340, 275hp, factory. NHRA factored to 299hp. Same NHRA factors as 1969. Fastback 383 can run a different class then the 340.

Have NEVER lost to a lowly 383 with a 340 both engines in stock or modified condition:thumbsup::thumbsup:

are you talking in a bracket race? or heads up? IF heads up, how many 383's have you actually lined up against head to head?

Interesting that the 1968 B bodies 383's 330 hp and 335 hp (RR) are factored to 295 hp and 296 hp respectively. The RR had the 440 heads, cam, intake and exhaust manifolds. The RR 383 was the ultimate in 383 power. A good friend had a 68 Satellite post with the 330 hp 383. it was a half second slower in the quarter then a 335 hp RR.

1971 'cuda 340 275 HP factory, NHRA factored to 314. 1971 'cuda 383 300 HP factory, NHRA factored to 300 HP. Can I say Thermoquad! Back up a year, the 340 is factored to 299. The 383 is factored to 300. But, the 1971 Duster/Demons were the car to have....with the 340.

Speaking of station wagons, another good friend runs a 1970 383 Satelite wagon in J/SA. No slouch either, high 11's.

station wagons and trucks, you say. there is no replacement for displacement .PERIOD!

Thats where those "taxicab"motors belong..as for the 340 it was used ONLY!!! in performance packages..

you guys have 2 arguments going here HP and ET...but you are forgetting the "package"
a stock 340 A body with D 70's had all it's components matched and back then they usually
were quicker (not faster) than a lot of bigger hp cars.A friend had a 408 in Dart with street tires that couldn't win a race.
It's not about hp it's about having everything fit...i believe there are 8.5:1 340's running in the 10's
and know the guy with the quickest Subaru in Canada running 7's over 200mph in the quarter
