Outstanding work!

Thanks! I fit the new quarter for the first time today and it fit like a glove! No pie shaped gaps to deal with.. I'm waiting on my new door strikers (AMD sent me duster ones) so once they come I can do a proper test fit. For now this will let me weld in the outer wheel well tub and trunk extension, as well as weld in the odd patch. I definitely don't have a shortage of things to do!

I've got the outer wheelwell tub fitted and tacked in place today. This weekend I'll finish welding it up and grinding it down. I think I've had the quarter on and off about 50 times so far!

Weld thru primer and holes drilled for plug welds.

Cutting thru both panels to set my gap for a butt weld.

Also got my resto rick sound deadener for the quarters.

Spent a solid 6hrs finishing up the butt weld.. I think this was more work than replacing the entire wheel well tub! I'm very happy with how it turned out and i'm glad I retained the original watertight seam weld on the inner/outer. I decided to use short strand firbeglass to cover my welds instead of all metal. (All metal is a PITA to sand) both work the same in the end.

Before putting the skim coat of fibre glass over my welds I turned all the lights off in the shop and shined a flashlight on the backside all along my welds and made sure I had no pinholes. Tomorrow I'll finish up the patch on the inner, putty and prime the bodywork area and move on to the trunk extension.

I got my door strikers, floor wiring covers and lower radiator support today. Next month is the door skins, front and rear valiance, splash guards and four speed hump. After that I need a hood and I'll have all the sheet metal... Pretty much replacing everything, haha.

It looking great man..... I wish you lived a little closer you could work on mine for a while.

Thanks! I'd need a bigger garage! How's your convertible coming along?

Well I spent another couple hours in the wheel well today and I'm glad it's finally done! I'll scuff it with 400 before I epoxy and it will be ready for paint. I also got the new jam set in place, hopefully tomorrow I can weld it in and move on to the trunk extension.

I don't think it does. I actually love doing it!!!

I find it rewarding, but I definitely wouldn't put it on my top ten things to do, haha.

I spent a good three hours fitting the door striker and quarter to the door and I'm finally happy with the gaps! I had to do quite a bit of adjusting to the lip of the door striker to get the quarter to follow the door contour. There's a lot of body lines on these cars! I ran out of time today and didn't get a chance to weld the striker on.. Next weekend! Next weekend I'll get the trunk extension on as well.

wow, your way up north LOL. I just helped Dustin to get his bronco ii out of my garage that has been in there for ever. I got a lot of small stuff to clean and paint. thanks for asking. The rate you are going yours will be ready by spring.

Haha yeah I'm up in the great white north eh! I look forward to seeing your cars progress. Right now My work has me so busy that I don't have anytime during the week to go do anything to it, so I make time every weekend to work on it... Atleast my O/T is helping pay for some parts. My goal is to have it in primer by the end of this year and hopefully start painting it. By mid February I should have the back half of the drivers side done, and then I'll start on the passenger side.

Did you order the AMD parts direct or did you get them through a supplier in Edmonton? Also did you get duster door jams by mistake? Do you still have them?

AMD will not ship to Canada, so I have a guy that gets me all my parts for an awesome deal. He still has the door strikers if you want them. I can pick them up for you next time I'm out there. They're duster ones. (Different at the top compared to the dart ones)

Damn dude-lots of really good work here.

Thanks!!

I would like to get the door striker pieces if they are still available. I will be in edmonton on the 29th and 30th and possibly the evening of the 28th, maybe we could hookup then? I wouldn't mind checking out your car too! PM with the price of the door pieces.

I don't know if is worthwhile or not but I reinforced mine with a plate. With all the A- Bodies that I have had they have been broke. It"s looking great. Keep the updates coming.

I'll send you a PM.

Looking good:
Nice looking fit on all that's in place.
Wish I had seen this thread before I started mine.

Keep up the good work

Thanks! You've done a great job with your car so far. I am going to do what you did with painting inside everywhere. Any updates with your Dart? How did your AMD fenders fit?

Thanks! I thought about doing it, but I don't think I'll have to worry about it cracking anytime soon... Maybe I'm being lazy and don't want to do anymore metal work then I have to, haha. I think a lot of the door striker damage has to do with the door pins wearing out?

Actually now that you mentioned the reinforcement, I remember my duster door strikers had them! I wonder why AMD didn't do it to the dart ones? You can see the thick plate in this pic of the duster ones I had.

My best friend Jason bought that car from a storage locker a couple years ago. My buddy is a long time car flipper, (mostly Chevelles, Camaros, and such.) He just loves a-body Mopars though. He was gonna pass on that 70 Swinger, but we decided it would be a fun day to rescue that car. He actually lost a couple hundred bucks on it. (towing). But, damn, has Randy ever stepped up to the plate on this one ! So GREAT to see it went to a good home. Amazing transformation so far. And not cutting any corners either !

Love following your thread. I wish that I had the metal fab skills you do. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I agree there with what your saying. I also wish I had the skill and plus the patience.

Great progress!

Thanks!!

Thanks Jason! I'm glad to bring this one back from the dead since it's the exact car I was looking for... All the perfect options for me to put it back to original.

I still haven't heard from the guy about the pedals. I'll try getting ahold of him again.

Thanks for the compliment, your car is coming along great as well! Any updates from the body shop?

I've got it in epoxy tonight! I got the door striker welded on and I panel bonded the trunk extension along where it mates with the trunk pan because it would have been to difficult to weld/grind that seam from underneath.. I welded it to the outer wheel well tub and it will be welded to the rear bumper panel once I fix the rust back there. Hopefully I can fix the rust in the back, weld the rear bumper bracket on and put a little more epoxy on tomorrow. I will also drip check inside the wheel well tub at the seam now that it's epoxied.

Here's the seam sealer/solvent brush I bought to recreate the seam sealer mess
