Picked this up at the Mopar Nationals This Year in Ohio.

IF I can get it titled will be doing a full resto.

The big sell points for this one were that the car was 99.99% complete and only was missing a motor and trans, which the person I bought it from has if I decide I want to put it back 100% to stock. Also all of the body panel metalwork was done already and car is in primer, this was big for me because I can't weld my way out of a paper sack. She needs full floor pans but I can handle that since they aint gotta be purrdy under the carpet.

In the past all my car builds have been modernized poor mans restomods but I'll tell ya, every time i go to a car show its not the new fancy restomods I notice...its the ones with the Fully stock original interior the way it was supposed to be without a bunch of fancy crap added, with this car being almost 100% unmolested from its original build date it was the perfect candidate for a factory style interior restoration.

On the exterior, the name of the game will be Mean Mean Mean and more MEAN. Will be going with a Hotrod black allover paint job and gloss black bumpers/wheels, probably go with slot type wheels, Fatties in the back, skinnies up front, and a lot of RAKE.

Mechanically the car will be most likely getting a full painless performance wiring kit and a mild warmed over 360 magnum. Will most likely set it up for mechanical fuel pump and a Carburetor to keep things simple, I do not play well with electric fuel pumps, I hate the noise, and they always seem to burn up. Will likely run an HEI style distributor and an MSD 6a Box.

Welp, Enough rambling.... Day 1 Pics below.

Looks like a great starting point. Nice that it's still sporting the Veight badges on the fender  There aren't many of us around with them left on our cars.

Cool car. I looked at that this year but have too many projects already. It was a good show this year and great weather. Good luck with the build. Looking forward to seeing updates

Little update. Took inventory today. Im only missing one interior part.

Ive got all the stainless trim, headlight bezels ext for outside the car.

Even have the engine harness and the prev owner labled every single wire :O
Off to a good start.

Congrats! Nice looking car you have there. I'm in the same boat -- previously I was all into hot rodding every car, but for several reasons I'm leaning more towards keeping things stock. Good luck on the project!

Now that's Lazer straight...congrats on finding her...that style car is what I search for high and low...there aren't many left...

I can't weld my way out of a paper sack.
Ha Ha...a welding instructor I used to work with would say "A good welder can fix anything but a broken heart".

That is a seriously nice project car. Good luck on the title. I was able to title my 51 GMC in Minnesota with a form where I explained the history of the car as I knew it, with an old registration card I found under the seat from Montana which had the prior owners name on it and a bill of sale from the body shop that I got it from who had purchased it for parts from the original owner. I don't know if they contacted that person or what but in two weeks I got a title. I was a little nervous about contacting the person on that card but was able to get in touch with his daughter who confirmed the truck was sold for parts and that she remembered it as a child so all was good. So good luck.

You ain't lyin. All i seem to find anymore are rusted to hell cars that are about 3000$ More than they should be. I knew it was getting bad out there, i had a 70 Dart 5 years ago and the entire game has changed. It's only gonna get harder and more expensive, especially with Companies deciding to drop the HEMI and V8 Platforms altogether and start replacing bad *** muscle cars with overpriced impossible to work on Electronic toys.

71's are my favorite I found this one in NC for $400 in 2012 and it's been on back burner for last 10 years...finally fixing to install a 1968/340 ..really want to convert to stick but very pricey

Started on the engine bay last night. Gave all the rusty spots a little wire wheel treatment and then sprayed it all down with rust converter primer. Let it sit for 24 hours and then applied a coat of regular black primer. Probably give it another coat of primer before i sand it down and its ready for paint. Gonna tape off the terminals on the wiper motor and hit it too.

That shark tooth grill is Hot!
Good work so far
I know I am in the minority here, but everyone and their brother has a sharkstooth grill on their Duster :poke:...I dare to be different and put a 69 Valiant grill on my 70. IMHO they look way better than OEM or Sharkstooth. To each his own.

Nothing wrong with being a little bit of a rebel, I'm actually in the minority too, my favorite grille style is the 73, and I like the 73 tail lights best too (don't lynch me!) I don't like them enough to do all that work to change it though! hahaha!

Sprayed the underside of hood and the inside of trunk with rust converter today, letting that cure 24 hours and then on to the black primer tomorrow.

You will notice i stopped a little ways back into the trunk area, this is because its getting all new floor pans inside, and ill address that area once they are in :)

Also, Ignore that Chebby in the background....it's not mine!

Today's Junkyard gold. Scored a rear bench seat and an 8 1/4 Rearend for my duster today for under 200$ Total.
There are still reasonable folks out there who genuinely love the hobby and want to see us finish our cars without trying to get rich.

Gonna give the bench seats a real good scrub down, fortunately back in the 70s someone put seat covers on them and despite the seat covers being ravaged, the original upholstry underneath looked nice like you see in the photos. Gonna scrub em down, degrease them, and then dye them black to match my interior.

Rearend will get cleaned up and probably sandblasted, powdercoated, and internals gone through. Not sure what the current gear ratio is or if it has Suregrip or not.
To be determined.

Plugging away again this past week. I got the new 8.25 rear end cracked open, verified it was a non suregrip 2.45 rear end with the help of the group.

Gonna be installing a spicer suregrip unit, full rebuilt kit, and 3.73 ring and pinion from Doctor Diff.

Spent a good part of the afternoon degreasing and cleaning up the rearend before it goes to the shop for work, Once the new stuffs all in I'm going to get it sandblasted and either painted or powdercoated black.

Also this week, i went to town on my factory split bench with Legendary Auto Seat upholstery, it was a learning experience for sure, I'm mostly happy with how they turned out.

Stripped the old seat clear down to bare metal, added spring ties, 2 layers of burlap, followed by 2" high density foam and topped with the Legendary Covers.
Looks really good and feel comfortable to sit on so far, Cant finish the tops yet because im waiting on some cotton batting I have on order.

Been a busy week in review, because I also did some clean up work to my factory gauge cluster, Repainted it, cleaned up the lenses, and installed a vinyl wood grain overlay, unfortunately, the vinyl didnt quite match up and now I have a Bump where the Seatbelt idiot light thing is located. Not a big deal since I'm planning on switching to a brand new aftermarket housing with autometers gauges as soon as affordable though.

This one will pass for now.

Nice project, a decent body is 1/2 the battle.
On the gauge cluser, maybe take an x-acto knife and trim around the bump.
I also put the full auto-meter gauges in my duster.

A 1976 Duster I sold about a year ago. I kinda liked the clean stock look, with a few gauges I added.
Small tac, oil and temperature gauge. All the factory cluster still worked.

Both of those look great!

Deep cleaned and degreased the rear bench seat and redyed the vinyl black to match the rest of interior.

It has a small rip on the right side that im not really worried about because the back seat will never get used. It would be a waste of 400-500$ for new upholstery. I will probably put a patch on it later for good measure though.

Once the dye dries ill give it a 3rd final coat if it has any patchy or uneven areas.

Watersanding the primer at 400 grit until smooth.

Might do a coat of sealer after that.

Got most of driver side knocked out today
