1971 Valiant Super Bee (Mexico) Proyect

Thanks for the info Mopar Mexico,I have a couple of questions you. On my '70 super bee the 270 horse power emblem is on the hood scoop but on the '71 I've in pics it's on the fender above the 318 emblem, was this changed for '71. Also I have a sales brochure from Mexico for 1970, the picture for the super bee shows an emblem under the mirror on the driver's door. Do you know what it might be? It looks to me like may be the super bee symbol but can't say for sure, and it's hard to see on this photo.

I have seen only one of these cars before . And amazingly enough , it was here in the states , but it did have a mexican license plate . I would love it if you guys would share more of these cars and info with us . I especially like the tach on the scoop " zip " thats cool .
 
How cool would it be to show up at a local get together in one of these cars?!
Probably get in a fistfight with a know it all though LOL .:toothy10:
 
Funny you mention that Jo, I take it to a lot of local shows and for the most part people are very interested and want to learn about the Mexican Super Bee's. But a few guys think they know it all and either want to argue or just don't want to believe these cars exsist. I had one guy say it was a Duster and that was all there was to it, didn't want to read my documentation or listen to any thing I had to say. His poor wife was almost in tears!!

Hi, the emblem of 270 hp at 70 going into the hood scops, your car is right in at 71 and 72 are placed on the fenders above the 318.
On the emblems that are below the side mirror, are actually stickers, with a picture of the super bee, and the name "Super Bee", in black with yellow, must be like 5 or 6 inches long, not everyone wore, few to date in Mexico are very few bees 70s in super original condition, I have only seen a couple of times in my life. We still communicate, I hope to get this decal and share it with you.

Another important detail is missing from your super bee 70 is carried by the side mirror from the factory, only one, the driver's side, of European origin, chrome, bullet-shaped, mark "Sebring" in the catalog drawing sales is present, soon I show you a picture.

Neat cars,love the striping and the unique side mirrors.

I have a couple questions,do the speedometer come in kilometers? In the picture showing the rallye dash on the car being restored,it looks like the speedo has much larger (numerically) numbers than the domestic version.

Also,what are the differences in the motors beetween the Mexican and US/Canada 318s? If the badge says they're rated at 270 hp as opposed to 230 for ours what's making the extra hp? 4 barrel carb? dual exhaust? cam? 360 heads?

Yes the speedometer is in kilometers. The 270hp comes from 340 parts in a 318 block. I have posted a lot of pictures on Flickr.com search Mexican Super Bee.They show some of the other features on these cars only in Mexico.
 
And lets not forget the Chrysler de Mexico 1970 Dart GTS's!

OK, I'm confused..normal state ?

It is a duster in canada as well.

Other than being a duster with different stripes...and an outside tack like the Trans am, what is the difference ?

ZIPo133, is you car a clone or did you drag yours up from Mexico ?

Mexico is a great place to vacation..we have been there lots of times but have never seen one of those..is it a rare car down there ?

Also about parts. What's vendor supply like for these? The badging, the decaling, etc? Who sourced the tach?
 
The car some how made it to Los Angeles, that's where I found it. It's not a clone, I have lots of documentation from Mexico( government certificate, bill of sale from 1971,etc.). The hood tach is factory as seen in the photo, but are available at some shops. Pictures of the cluster and other features of the car are posted on flickr.com search Mexican Super Bee. Parts are not to much of a problem anything for '70 Duster fits, body or power train. badging and center caps for the wheels are only for Mexico and are very hard to find, striping is available here.

zip0113, nice car. I noticed that your car is missing the blower motor, is that it has been moved some how or did you just delete it?

Also is that rad correct, it looks like the early rad.

Your car is awesome..i woud like to see one of these in person some day..luv the colour.

Not sure if everyone knows but my first RAM with a 318 was built in mexico..I assume my hemi ram was built in the same factory.

Mopar continues to surprise me even these days. They continued with muscle cars after a fashion long after they were gone in North America.

I'd love to have one of those Aussie Hemi 6 chargers. Thier awesome!

In 84' I purchased an orange 71' Demon 340 with the exact spoiler that is on the yellow Bee. I was told by a "swap meet expert" that it wasn't original and looked like it came from a GTO Judge or something else but definitely not factory.Can Super Bee cc or anyone else offer any info as to the originality of the spoiler....If I remember correctly I gave that spoiler away ....."for nuthin" ...cause I thought it was a GM part. (I'm gonna kick that swap meet experts "***" if I ever run in to him again!!!!)
 
small update on the status of the Super Bee, the sides are being replaced as there is much corrosion on the bottom, but wanting to change everithing even the back,
already have the new laminated doors, it's just a matter of adjusting montary . engine bay is well under way.

My friend just picked up a '70 Mexican Valiant here in Canada, it looks like a Duster, is there any way to decode the fender tag or vin to see if it's a super bee?
From the pics already posted, it doesn't look like it. It's a 318 4 barrel column auto with a standard guage cluster and the speedo is in km/h.
I'll try to get some pics up as soon as he sends them to me.

I see your vehicle, is Mexican, the first superbes 70, 71 and think 72 in mexico were with manual transmission in the floor, and bring choice but front disc brakes with 4 piston calipers
I have not found the decoding of the plates of the fender. the number of each vehicle was represented by the year, and numeration, T0-xxxxx. there were many differences of a super bee in Mexico to a Duster
The board mark 240 km / h for super bee, had 160 and 200 km / h for Duster slant six.
I think you have put the V8 engine and transmission in this duster, all right for a project as a clone of Mexican super bee.

Hello Dartnut, Very interesting car, I've had my Mexican Super Bee for over two years and have to agree with Super Bee CC. My speedo reads 240 kph,4 speed, hood scoops,hood tach and more. But they also say Super Bee on the inside door where it says Duster on the one in the pic.The door panels,carpet,and washer jug are all the same. I haven't been able to find anyone to decode my fender tag, but some have tried! I hope this helps.
 
I will post more pictures of the car as soon as he cleans it up, it's full of road grime from the trip to Lethbridge. It is not a slant 6 car, and has a 8 3/4 rear end in it sbp with 10" drums. It's originally lemon twist yellow with an ugly grey repaint years ago. There's a sticker on the window that i think says it was registered in Canada around 1977. I'll let you guys know, and thank you for your information!

I have heard of cars that were sold in the tropical areas, being heater delete cars. That may very well be the case here.
I had purchased a "heater delete" panel for my dash, and soon found out it was primarily produced for tropical area cars. (not needing the heat):cheers:
