1998 dodge 1500 need tranny???

i am looking at a 98 dodge truck auto 5.9. its from one of my friends so i will get the truck for $500 just needs a tranny. anyone out there got one closeish to cheyenne or denver? it is auto and 4x4. i guess this one has an internal leak so it slips pretty bad. it was just rebuilt but the rebuild place wont honor hir warantee
 
he has fought it for a while and has given up. if he were to finish fighting it i couldnt get it for so cheap lol so it would be cheaper to get it now and put one in then get it l8r. and he is moving so needs it gone now. i might get the recipts and go yell at them lol
 
Buy it now while you have the chance to get it for dirt cheap. Worry about fixing it later, try a local junkyard ar a pick and pull. it won't cost a lot if you shop around to replace the tranny.
 
Worst case buy a rebuilt tranny from a parts store (Advance Auto can get salvage yard trannies w/ warranties). Then you will have a warranty on the tranny. The part I don't like about junk yards is that you don't know what you'll get ( kinda like a box of chocolate ) going through a parts store ( like Advance Auto ( they use LKQ ) you get a warranty.... at least if you get a bad one your covered.
 
Tyler here where you can get transmissions from salvages. The ones that are close to you are high. The bottom of the list is where you can buy cheaper and have them shipped.

I don;t want to sound like a know it all.....you did check the fluid after it has idled for a bit right......should be on the high side of the safe line not low side.........those are real tough to read, check it 5 times....dead serious....
 
i havent yet. but probably will when i get it. i was told it was checked out by the tranny shop and they said it has a cracked housing. but it was rebuilt by i think the same shop and i bet they would of found the crack before it was all done so idk. i will get the truck, diagnose it more and then worst case is get a tranny. i found one tranny for $500 out of a 99 dodge but cant find it again lol. thanks for all those. i am actualy from denver just going to school in cheyenne so some of those are real close. thanks
