2008 SRT8 The Price Is Right ?

Then you need to take into consideration Chryslers quality control as of late.Someone had a link on here about a month ago that pretty much sold me on anything but a new Chrysler car.I had a 2002 Ram and the tranny was toast after 2 months.:sad10:

Not sure why you think the new Challenger is a "wannabe". The SRT8 will outperform a 70-74 stock vs stock.

It also has better brakes, better handling, bigger tires and wheels, a quiet interior, with a nice audio system, and production tolerances measured in thousandths - not inches. It truly is an all around better car.

Unfortunately car prices have far outpaced incomes since 1970. In '70 most people bought their car outright, or took out a short loan. These days it seems most take out loans, or lease, and the loans can be for 7 years or more:eek: Sucks](*,)

We have a 5 year loan on our Dodge Dually. We own our 2004 Mach 1 outright. I would love to trade our Mach 1 for the SRT8 Challenger, but I don't have that kind of cash kicking around and I don't want to take on the load of another loan.

Chrysler blew this sale... When I was looking for a 2 door muscle car in '04 Chrysler only offered a 4 door they dared to call a Charger. So, I shopped around and found what I was looking for at the blue oval dealer... Not what I really wanted, but for some unknown reason it has taken Chrysler the better part of a decade to come out with a two door to stick their Hemi in.:thumbdow:

I just talked to my local chrysler dealer about the new challenger and what it would take to get one....not gonna happen. He told me that the first run is a limited quanity and each dealer is just getting one. They already have their chally sold to another dealership by chicago for 20k more than sticker. I asked twice if I heard him correctly, and he said "Yes, and I think we could have gotten more." In the first month or two these things are going to price 50-60k by the dealers. The sad thing is that most of the buyers aren't going to be real mopar guys, but rich, barret-jackson type, image people. I only hope that they will become as affordable as the new gto in a couple years that way I can justify buying one.

haha, i bought my duster with a slant six, no airbags, manual drum brakes, no power steerin, no abs......the only problem my mother had with me buying a 1974 duster like this was that it was too slow. she thought the slant six was a dog and was wondering when i was gona get the v-8 done. Oh and i bought this a year and a half ago just after i turned 16, im not in a midlife crisis. :thumblef:
...
and she cant stand the sound of ricers, but likes glasspacked v-8s

Selling at sticker about $40K, note these are srt-8s fully loaded except for a few minor options.

After April 2008 you will these cars from 22K to $45K depends on the version etc.

But many dealers want 10-20K above sticker, not worth it for me and out of my $$ range. I think $40 is about what almost all newer performance/ luxury cars get these days. High yep i agree! But hell I have $22K and counting in my 64 Dart, of course it will out run any new car.. well maybe not a Ferari...:happy7:

I just spoke to our local Dodge dealer and he has orderd two, a black one and an orange one. 37,900 is the same price he told me but he said you could expect another 10 to 15,000 grand tacked onto that! Ireally want one but damn!

I think the real bottom line here is "old school" versus "new school" ... Can't we all just get along ?? :love8:

My '03 Ram died on the road yesterday. I had it towed to the Dodge dealer and while I was there I spoke to their sales manager about the price of a new Challenger. He said they are getting 11 and they haven't decided what the markup will be, but it will be between 10 and 20k. I'll pass:(

Well assuming oil prices dont keep going through the roof and or oil shortages dont occur I would wait a few years for the Challenger. Let the initial hype cool down and once they are on the road for a year or two the pricing will get a nice reality check. Plus I have been reading allpar and Chrysler is doing some great work on the next generation hemi engines.. as well as a new 6 speed auto/manual tranny that is supposed to blow away almost anything else on the market today. The new hemi might have variable cam timing like the 08 Viper does, as well as 3 valve cylinder heads and I wouldnt be surprised if direct injection was thrown into the mix too. Plus I dont think a 425 hp engine as the top of the line choice will cut it for too long so a street version of the 392 might be expected with at least 450 hp.

I had a 70 challenger convertible .It was by far the coolest car I have ever owned .My wife and I loved to take it out for drives and it seemed at every stop light someone always wanted to race .It was difficult to keep my foot out of it .I welcome the new challenger and the new technology and if they build a convertible I will buy it and not care about the price I am a mopar guy and always will be I still own a few mopar muscle cars and I don't have a Barrett Jackson billfold but you only go around once enjoy the fruits of your and ma mopars labours .Oh and just say no to bowties and blue ovals and down with comunist ricers Brian

1) Local dealers are getting three cars per dealer, and one has vowed to sell them AT STICKER according to an insider at the dealer.

2) SRT cars wll totally outperform their older bretheren. No Charger ever built even comes close to the SRT8. The SRTs are halo cars..not meant to be mass marketed.

3) I would be happy to see 6.1L or even 5.7L cars in more basic trim. My big complaint is that I could only get a 5.7 Charger if I bought the freakin R/T with the leather. You'd more likely find me buying a police version and saving a few thousand dollars.

4) I think once the 09s come out, you will see realisticly priced V6 and 5.7L equipped Challengers designed to compete with the Mustangs.

The excessive price gouging will go on for quite some time to come, even on the R/T models, and especially on the 6 speed Hemi cars when they start rolling out.
