I've never heard of this ratio. Have you??? It is in a 741 3rd member. It is clearly stamped in the ring gear. Thanks.

Yes I have had one but it was out of a real early model car. I think like 58 or 59.

8 3/4 gear ratios thru the years. 1957-1972.

2:76, 2:93, 3:23, 3:31, 3:55, 3:73, 3:91, 4:10, 4:56, 4:89, 5:17, and 5:57.

It really is a good ratio, for cars without a OD trans. Between a 3.23 and a 3.55.

Count the teeth on the ring gear and pinion. Post that and we'll tell you the ratio. That's if you're not sure.

Let me guess 65 barracudadude, that 3:31 came in that early 8 3/4 you got with the keywayed drums, no? I had the same gear in my old 64 Belvedere before I changed out the housing for the later style without the keyed drums. Mine was in the 657 case, or whatever the number of the early case is. I'd say your other ratio is a 2:94 rather than a 3:23. Good luck with your project, Geof
