Here are the only #s on the block. I know it's a 318, but as you can see in the 2nd pic you cannot read the year. The vin pad is not stamped with any #s

Here is the balancer and crank. Is the balancer for a forged crank, The crank looks cast and has stampings and cast in #s. I'm thinking .010 on the journals. The rods and caps are not numbered , but has weird stampings on them such as , one has a star, one has a cone, one has a wine glass, another has a # and so on. ( maybe a warranty rebuild ?) Casting #s on the rods are 3418645 (common 318 ) and has .030 pistons, only # on those I see is
B285 up inside, flat top with 4 valve reliefs . Look like sealed power pistons maybe. What C/R ? Any and all help is appreciated . What year did the 318 go to a cast crank ?

Casting date 6/23/73??

It's a 318. They didn't come in many varieties. There should be a vin# pad the deck surface. It should have the last 8 of the vin. That won't tell you anything though.

There is a how to thread in the engine section.

Do you have the number's under the head on right side front of block, it will tell you the year also, heres an example of the numbers I'm talking about, this is a 1970 340.

I have a 70 318 with forged crank. I think the 1st year for 318's was late 67, but could be wrong.

So can anyone tell what the crank and balancer is , ????

318's are neutral balanced whether it has a cast or forged crankshaft it would use a neutral balancer.

From my knowledge, getting things balanced could prove pricey.
When I was going to do a 318, pistons are pricey. Machine shop quoted me around $600 to balance.
OK so it looks like it's a 76- 79 block, would these pistons and rods work with a steel crank motor? Balance would be OK ?
