Hi guys

Im researching to turbo my 318 in my Aussie Valiant and wanted some advise on a cam choice.

Im looking at building the following
8.5-9.0 comp
Edelbrock rpm heads
Victor 340 intake
Holley Sniper throttle injection
Holley Sniper ignition package to plug and play with the injection

Im aiming for around 400hp at the crank so with 15psi boost I can hopefully get 700-800 hp at the crank.

Im looking at a Lunati Voodo 30200741 cam, would this work with a turbo?
Im after something in the .550 ish lift range. Rpm around 6500-7000rpm

Thanks guys

15 psi of boost basically doubles the NA hp, don't think you need to turn that much rpm, you need 350-400 NA hp not gonna be that hard with eddy heads. Best you need to turn 6000-6200 for 400 hp. Probably get away with less duration by about 10-20 degrees.

So I'll be good with 110lsa with boost?
Maybe I should look at a 10200703?

I like the look of the 2058r grind.

So a smaller duration on the exh is needed for turbo applications?

Thanks for the info.

Technically any cam will work but I'd look into getting a custom one done, without knowing everything and what it's being built for hard to recommend, unless your building for some highly competitive racing and or street ability ain't of any concern I would caution to the smaller side not much need to Rev beyond 6000 or so rpm your gonna make a ton of power anyways, look for a cam grinder willing to work out the details with maybe even a builder 700-800 hp is a lot of hp to wing it.

Most turbo cams have two things different about them compared to NA cams:
- they have less exh duration
- wide LSA.
Crower 31979. 228/210 @ 050. 114 LSA. Up to 6500 rpm.

Where are you located? I would call somewhere like Clive cams or Tighe cams and get a custom grind. Both had cores in stock last I checked.
I would also be looking pretty hard at who makes those turbos for Aeroflow - your gunna have a lot of time and money invested in that engine to have it reliably support 800HP, would seem counter productive to risk it with a cheap chinese Turbo.

Chevy guys turbo stuff all the time. Get onto some of those guys via forums who have been there and done it on an entry level basis. Talk to experienced people who have navigated the pitfalls..
