I'm glad they're being reproduced, and I certainly applaud his efforts. The overall durability is almost certainly better than the OE shield. However, it's just incorrect enough that some people will still seek an NOS part.
  • The way the individual components are fastened on resto-nerd' is visibly different from original (open "grommet" swedges v. Tog-L-Lock)
  • Resto-nerd's part has an obvious extra fastening point at the top center
  • The shield pieces of resto-nerd's have the wrong shape between the exhaust ports
  • No Pentastar or part number
  • Heavier gauge material
They're minor details that probably won't concern most folks, but they will matter in the Platinum tent. His replacement part is infinitely better than not having one on a stock-appearing car, and if I had such a car I'd strongly consider it. Regardless, the bottom is not going to drop out of the $500 NOS heat-shield market anytime soon. The guys with Shaker hood or T/A cars will keep that going until they're all gone.

I think resto-nerd is wrong about demand having peaked, though. Demand just peaked among those willing to pay $200+ for an incorrect piece of tin. If he drops the price to where he's not making $125 on each one, I think they'll start selling briskly again.

So who is re-popping the $325 shield for Mancini?
From only NOS available to two reproductions in a couple of months.

You guys should be happy that someone is willing to make parts for a 50+ year old Mopar. If you can do better then start up your own company.
