i am at the stage of getting a cam for my 360 and i want to get some input from other people. its going to be a street/strip car and is going to be driven pretty daily.i have a sure-grip with 3.55 gears,4 bbl intake, headers, and am having some head work done as we speak. i have cast number " 874" heads dont know what that means but my dad said to mention it. and i was going to go with a hughes cam part #HUG HEH2328AL. in their required parts list i have them all so would this be a good choice for my use and driving style? http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/...dWxpYw==&level3=U3RyZWV0L1N0cmlw&partid=21848

thanks craig jr.

Is your bottom end stock? Its got the stock camshaft now?

If so, I'd go a step smaller than that. Something like this:

or this

You're probably pretty compression handicapped, so you don't want that intake valve hanging open while the piston is moving back up the bore (aka dynamic compression losses). Additionally, that causes loss of low end torque, which is king on a street car.

Its very easy to overanalyze on cam choice, but the thing to remember is that any of them are going to be a massive improvement over stock, and that the difference between any of the reasonable choices on a given combination is going to be less than 5hp peak, but the torque differences and horsepower curve down low can be massive.

In a street/strip car you are way way way way way better off going conservative.

Good luck

Steve

thanks for the input never really thought about that. yea right now i have the stock dish pistons. this was a rebuilt motor when i got it and had a new cam but i knew nothing about it so me and my dad didnt want to use it.

Make sure you have the spring seats cut fro dual springs, and the guides cut for positive seals too. Most modern cams need the dual springs now. I'd just use the XE268 or similar.

The voodoo cam would be a good choice, although thats the only one i haven't tried the others i used performed quite well...

You might want to go to Comp Cams website and download their camquest program. You put in all your info and it will show you cams and calculated HP info.

I was surprised at the VooDoo 268 in a mild 318. It idles nasty, but it still had 13" of vacuum. I did the heads and helped tune this car so I dont know the details on the lower end... but it was stock compression.

there is a old magazine article that did a smog motor 360 and made 300 plus horse power i think they used the XE262
