383 crank mystery. Missing locator? HELP!

Just an fyi- A mallet and a piece of hardwood like an old hammer handle usually works. A chisel may damage the key although you could dress it with a file afterwards.
 
You can use a brass drift (punch) to tap one end flush with the crank, that will raise the other end up a bit.

Then tap the lifted end parrallel to the crank surface to pivot the key up and out of the crank.

Some penateating oil ahead of time would not hurt.

Lots of you tube videos on the subject.

Do your best to not scratch the crank or the key
 
I've always grabbed the key with a pair of wire cutters & popped it right out...
