The lack of security is news to me.
Do you have an calibration ID# ?

Diablo can tune any 03 and 04 but just not the TCM. I think the issue is that often specific and uncommon PCM calibration IDs just have to added to the Diablo database. If I had a manual trans 04 that needed a tune, all I'd have to do is email DS and they'd add the PCM and get me a template file.
 
Once a PCm has been Skim enabled a dealer cannot turn it off. That is something Chrysler has kept out of the dealers hands. That is why on late model cars swapping modules to test for a problem can be a very expensive proposistion. They have the abiliy to turn on the security featur of another module that doese not have it at the time just by being in the same circuit. They can get a new skim and key and program it to match the PCM. There is a company in Michigan that has the ability to turn off the skim by wiping the entire PCM clean. Think of it this way though. If you have a pcm that is theft enabled you can wire in the SKIM module and program the key and have a nice theft deterent or a good way to keep your teenager from taking it out one night when you are not home.

That makes perfect sense.

I've used a DRB to program a vin# from a SKIM to a used PCM from a different vehicle but it requires a 4 digit pin # that you have to get from Chrysler that only a Dealer can access.

This is what I plan to do with our 67 Baracuda swap. I have a PCM but no SKIM. Once I pick up a SKIM, I'll just used the DRB to program what ever VINs that on the SKIM to my PCM.
 
The PCM comes new with SKIM disabled. Once it is installed in a vehicle with SKIM, it "learns" the vehicle and enables the SKIM feature. You cannot "unlearn" SKIM without reflashing the PCM. To my knowledge, this is not possible at the dealership level.

The company in Michigan is B & G Chrysler Specialists http://www.bgperformancepcm.com/#nostaligia $450 to flash your PCM! Ouch! Unfortunately, they seem to be the only game in town. If you see other companies advertising they can flash your PCM, it's because they send it to these guys.

Do you feel like sharing your part number Mr. Ed? I'm scouring the bone yards and found an 04 PCM but I know the diablo stuff talks to the 05 stuff better.

Just to be clear, you can't unlearn a SKIM from a PCM but you can have any old PCM "relearn" which ever SKIM you're using. Its a 5 min operation with a DRB.


FYI: LX cars only have 3 PCM connectors too since they use a separate TCM.

I had to wait 'til the wife was out of the room so I could dig through my pile of receipts LOL!

RL028878AB, this is a reman PCM I bought new from the dealer (I worked there at the time.) I paid $319 which was 10% over dealer cost, two years ago (damn, time flies when you're having fun) and there's a $125 core charge. Nobody said this hobby was cheap!

The original module was and is no longer available. That part number was 56028976AA. It superseded 21 times since then so there are plenty of other numbers to search for. I can send you the list if you want. Unfortunately, this was a one-year deal available only on 2500 and 3500 Rams. The 1500 5.7's all got automatics. The throttle-by-wire pedal I'm using is 48617708AB.

Mine's very close to running also, hopefully in the next couple of weeks! Only then I'll know if I did things right... keeping my fingers crossed!
 
Johnparts, I couldnt trace back the link. The one I posted is incorrect. The one I found I can't find :-( I do remember it being on E body only in there online store for only 199.00. I havent had the problems you guys seem to have maybe because I bought a Crate 5.7 complete from Indy Head Service, it was onlt $4995.95 plus 550.00 for freight. The crates come with a plug&play ECM, torque converter for 727. I only had to but a mini starter and headers. I will try and find that link again. Sorry about the other Google link.

Actually only '03 and '04 Rams had this module. The accelerator sensor was part of this module with was actuated by the gas pedal/cable setup. In '05 they went to a pedal with the accelerator sensor built in so you wouldn't need to have this added component, basically getting rid of the middleman in the throttle system. This is why I went with the '05 PCM.
 
Well after talking to the guys at plum floored and modern muscle today they both said I could run the pedal I have with the old ecm and just wire it like I was using a stock dbw module

Yeah see I'm hoping to be into the whole swap under 4 grand which is why I'm doing things "the hard way" I'm trying my best to keep the wife happy among other things to plus no offense but anyone with a gold card can do this swap in a few weeks but that's not the true hot roding spirit. I want to say I built it and mean every inch of the car.
 
I'm with you man, but "the hard way" is the easy way for me. I had a 12 second 04 ram that was totaled at a stoplight when I got rear ended. So I have every part possible that I might need. And I have a friend that manages a junk yard and I can get parts out of it cheep/free. So when it comes to ram stuff I can afford to do it "the hard way." the hard part for me is I had to start from nothing for the car. I picked up my duster for 700 and have about 2500 in it right now. The cage will be done soon, wheel tubs are in, the dana60 is waiting to be narrowed, and after I drop about 3000 the rear suspension and axle wil be done. Then what ever the trans costs, and my 12 sec truck motor should put me in the 10's. He he he I can't wait.

Same here my buddy has the garage I don't so it sits next to his 11 second magnum ( a huge help since we can glance over his stuff and see where everything goes.) But yeah I need to get my rear end finished too I'm hoping to have a nice 11 second cruiser that I can get good milage in and drive to work all summer long without worrying about it breaking down overe stupid crap like hydrolock or damn carb acting up.

FWIW,,DiabloSport CMR can tune that old PCM cal ID. 56028976AH is the newest cal ID I show.

Here's the WOT A/F and Timing if anyone's wondering. 5-6 degrees of timing added under 2500rpm and a leaner A/F over 4500rpm will do some good

lol the funny thing is I'm building mine as a winter car, but keep in mind here in az our race/car season is in the winter
 
yeah I can imagine drag racing in 110 degree weather in the shade would suck. My mom just bought a house out in AZ I believe Tempe they plan on retiring there I told her she was nuts.

I know where you are coming from. I was going to go the old school route till I found the "package" (crate) at such a cheap price. To each his own weather it be hi or low. Good luck for I know it can be done in time. By the way I saved up for this. No "credit cards" just 'ol fashion saving ;-)
 
I am using the wiring, engine, trans, computer, and modified pedal from an 05 Ram 2500. I just kept tracing wires and removing or creating a circuit for each wire one at a time as I went through the harness. I spent many hours off and on over a few months working out my wiring, but I was able to successfully get it running with relatively few trouble codes. I just kept looking up the wires from each connector that led to the main fuse box.

Since you are planning to go without the trans your setup will obviously be simpler. Attached is a summary of the circuits I created. The letters and numbers correspond with what is in the factory 05 truck service manual.
