Looking for help. Had this trans rebuilt. It shifted fine before (the overdrive was slipping). Has reverse, 1st second but won't go into third. New converter. Tried unhooking kickdown. I've read to reset the front band and try ziptying the kickdown lever forward.

I'll try those later today but I wanted to see if anyone has anything else.

Obviously it's filled to spec. No noises or anything to report.

3/4 shift solenoid????

This is a kickdown issue. The correct kickdown linkage needs to put on the car and adjusted correctly. Bouchillon makes the best kit (not lokar).

As for the overdrive solenoid., that controls the 3-4 shift and has nothing to do with this problem.

It has a cable conversion linkage and it was adjusted to what people say (although there seems to be some argument about what that it). I unhooked it just to take it out of the equation. To my understanding having it unhooked will make it shift up through the gears too fast so I was trying to get it to go into third.

I had it adjusted to a 1/1 ratio with the throttle.

I was going to adjust the kickdown band today but I don't have the right magic 4 point socket and no where around here has 8 or 4 point sockets.

I wish I could get to even figuring out the overdrive at this point.

This whole thing is kind of a cluster. It's a 1991 Dakota (original LA318 v8 car) that I put a 2000 magnum 5.2 in. Converted to carb so it's going to be a whole other mission getting the overdrive and lockup converter working. Right now I'm just trying to to get the 3 speeds to work.

If left unhooked, it'll burn up the transmission eventually. If tied back (some racers used to/still do it), it'll give full line pressure but may also cause a stacked shift and shift from 1st to 3rd, making it feel like it never makes the 2-3 shift, when in reality it shifted from 1st to 3rd skipping 2nd.
