Hey all... Getting ready to button the 440 install on my Duster. Can you give your recommendations on radiator/fan combos for 550hp street/strip car?

best thing I have found is Ford Contour fans

Us radiator can customize a copper brass OEM style rad for your needs.

If your core support is capable of a 26 wide radiator go that route.

Electric fans are fine but add complexity.

Search "my engine overheats" the most in common items are aluminum radiators and electric fans and fan shrouds that are parallel to the radiator

The Ford contour fans have been reported to work great. But you will need to beef up your electrical system as well.

"The parts you don't add, don't cause you no trouble"

Direct drive mechanical fan with an OEM style fan shroud will work without future issues.

Thermal couplers do not aid in cooling, never have never will. They are a way to have an aggressive blade pitch and reduce noise and some load on the engine at speed.

What other stuff do I need with those contour fans
I bought those a few years ago for my drag car.
I haven't installed them and have forgotten what I will need to run them.
Thanks

Pretty doggone hard to beat the original mechanical fan with shroud for cooling. The OE style mech fan moves a ton of air. Be sure to run an excellent water pump like the Flowkooler, a high flow thermostat like the Stewart Components, and your mech fan w/shroud. Some folks have installed a 26" radiator and redrilled the mounting holes to make it work. You can do that but will need to watch out for how well the shroud is centered around the fan.

  1. Higher output alternator.
  2. Revised wiring to handle the load of the fans. (Each in the 10-30amp range IIRC)

This is for a mustang but you get the point.

  1. Thermostat switch
  2. A place on the manifold to put the thermostat switch
  3. Relays
  4. Or some form of fan controller

Again...

The parts you don't add, don't cause you no trouble!

Thank you, I assume I need them. It's a drag car, probably a little bit heavy but It will need to stay cool.

Here's my set up. It is a 3 row radiator and the water pump is the aluminum type, and a big block fan with the factory clutch. The thermostat is a 165. I runs about 185* in the summer time. Here is a picture.

i like a stock style rad recored with a high efficiency staggered core and 18" mechanical fan with shroud and hood to core support seal.

I run a stock mechanical fan and clutch with a shroud and a Champion 3 core 26" radiator, never gets over 190 with a 180 stat in it. Had the same results with a factory 26" radiator prior to this one too.

Hellcat brushless fans are what I put in mine. Guys saying they are awesome but I haven't run mine yet. Dorman 620-039xd is the part number.

I had the 22” rad recored, 4row maxi, bottom tank stretched to accommodate the new wider core, and a chevy hhr fan. It fit nicely with no gaps around the shroud and I have never had a problem. 440/855

I have the radiator and fan assembly from an 06-08 Charger in my 67 barracuda. The radiator is an all aluminum version of the radiator that is available on Amazon-exact copy. It is a tight fit with regard to the front of the engine. I'm running a motor plate, electric water pump, and low mount alternator. Keeps the engine cool for my drag-n-drive usage.

Is your Engine/Trans pushed back from factory location? You have a lot more room between the radiator and the fan than I do. I only have 3 inches from the radiator the water pump pulley.
