400 block.

440 steel crank turned down
440 rods/ARP wavelock bolts
Ross FTs (9.73) comp.
Stock port 906s with stainless 208/174 valves
XE284H, Ductile iron 1.5 rockers
M1 single, swapmeet 750dp.
4400 9.5" converter, 4.10 gears

75 duster, 3200 race weight.

Best run. 10.91 @ 121 on a 1.51 60ft. in mine shaft air.

Installed a Weiand TR & 2 600 1850s
Home ported the heads, they flowed around 264/198 at .550 lift.
Went with a comp solid, 547/529-250/256 @50 on a 108

1st. pass in dead heat & no tuneing.

10.87 @ 123.58 on a crappy 1.63 60ft.

Don't know the HP/TQ #s, but as you can see it wasn't that wild, had around 4K total in that engine.

Shifted it at 5800, trapped 6200.
 
with a big block...get better heads, then save in other places.

about 280 cfm with stock valves and ported is all there is, after that...it's just cheaper to buy a set of stealth heads for $900.

I think KB has a hyper for the 451 using the longer 440 rod, I would skip the 400 short rod idea.jmo
it's a faster rev'in 440...
 
I had about 350.00 in my 906s before my porting time & beat up on many BB A bodies with 1400.00 Eddy heads lol, man that was fun. Its all in how you tune it & the right combo.
 
so keeping budget 451 in mind lemme ask this:
If i use a solid 440 crank turned down-
can stock 440 rods be used?
what pistons are recommended?

it's best to use 440 length rods. check out the kb piston site for the correct piston.
 
Not a 451 but we've just turned down a 440 crank to go in my brother's 383.
At 60 over it'll be a 438.
We used 440 length aftermarket H beams with small pins (picked them up new 2nd hand dirt cheap) and bought a set of Diamond pistons to suit.
Haven't got far with the engine but it's got stealths,TTI,performer rpm,750vac,Comp 272 hydraulic.
It's to go into a 65 Fury so heavy car.
Brother is hoping for 450hp...I reckon 400.
 
if you take a look at KB piston catalog they have
2 set of piston for engine like you wanna built
 
I have a fresh .030 over 400 that has been cleaned and prepped, also had the mains turn to 440 size and a steel 440 crank if your interested.
 
Is there any off the shelf pistons for 9.1 compression for a 451 with 6.76 rod and 84cc heads,sorry for hijacking put sense we are on the 451 subject.

Sure LOL, I wish i still had that car, i really miss it, I had more Bowtie guys put there $$$ on my duster against there cocky friends that showed up wanting to put down a mopar :glasses7:, I never lost "unless" there car had a bunch in it & should run good #s, The guy who owns it now (has for the last 5 yrs.) is 160 lbs. more then me & dropped in a .590 cam, 4.56 gears & twin 660s, With 3 cylinders going south it pulled of a 10.75 @ 125 with my home ported 906 heads, after the 3rd. run that day it started huffin & didn't break out of the 11s, 3 cylinders read 100 psi. With my boney butt & a strong run i'm sure 10.5s @ 126 would be cake, IMO thats cookin for such a mild combo with "as we say" crappy heads, He is in the process of a re-fresh & Indy heads & more stall & shooting for 10.0s, I was shocked when he told me he was shifting it at 6800 & trapping 71-7200.

I'm sure Ross/KB or Diamond would have something off the self, give them a call, If those are 84cc Aluminums i'd go higher on the compression, 10.1 or in that area.
