6.5 years on a battery - new personal record!

-
Bought a new Dodge Ram 3500 in 2003. Just replaced the batteries for the first time this fall. 21 years on a set of batteries!!

I would recommend you immediately go and buy some lottery tickets.
I though you would get personal enjoyment to know I walked out to the garage today, and the wife's 2015 charger wouldn't turn over. Lol, serves me right for opening my mouth! Still an 11 year old battery at this point though. !

That`s how it works doesn`t it. We jinks ourselves, lol
I touted in another thread about using an old water pump, it`ll probably start leaking pretty soon. :)

I have found factory batteries on daily drivers last 10 years plus. Nothing kills batteries like sitting especially if they go dead once in way. The best battery I had was an Interstate. I wonder if they sti make them like they used to?

My 05 Ram battery lasted 15 years, my SRT Challenger lasted 9 years and replacements have been good so far
Funny you mention this. Same 2005 Dodge 2500 diesel reg cab 6spd, original batteries replaced a year and a half ago with AGM. Someone told me that the purity of the lead used back then was better than what is recycled so much today. My truck sits alot. It is a garage queen with only 22,400 miles, original Michelin tires with no cracks on the sidewall but you would not want to drive on wet roads too much. Wonder what battery manufacturer uses virgin lead anymore. My old 2014 BMW had the factory battery for years also..

Had to get some plywood, so I went to start the '01 Dodge full-size van the other day.
I've arguably got too many cars (don't tell my wife), and I've probably used the van about every two months for the last ten years or so, but I like to have it when I need it – 3/4-ton, 360, 4:10 posi, it'll haul whatever I need and it's a great tow vehicle.

Turn key. Nothing. Not even a click. No relays, no gauges, Nada.
Damn. Squirrels must've chewed something else.
Open hood, look at battery. Oh.

So, with very intermittent use, this Wal-Mart battery lasted exactly 14 years.

I doubt the new one will, but then again, I may not either.

I have a couple electronic trickle chargers. They pay for themselves over the long haul.

Whenever I buy a new battery I try to get the latest date possible. Sometimes you don' t have the ability to rummage through them. I recently bought a battery from Sam' club on sale. I put the battery on the trickle charger and it read 12.6 volts. So over night the next day still read 12.6 volts. I thought maybe a problem with the battery but looked at the charger and saw it was on 6 volts. Switched to 12 Volts and then read 13.6 which is a full charge.
