G'day.
Just got a pair of discs and calipers for an early A down here in Oz. Came off an Australian Valiant. Would like to convert my '63 Signet from front drums to discs.
One of the discs has no wheel studs in it (not sure if it's L or R).

My question is:
Are the wheel studs the same in the discs as they are in the drums? Or do I need a specialised type?
I can get the standard drum studs down here, but not sure whether I can get the disc ones if they happen to be different.

Thanks for any help.

I think the factory Kelsey-Hayes disks for 64-72 used the same 7/16" diameter since the same wheels and lug nuts could be used on disk or drum. Not sure on the length. Factory 73+ wheels had 1/2" studs. Wheel studs are one of the easiest things to buy and I don't think they vary between Mopar, GM, and Ford. I would get RH threads so tire monkeys don't spin your studs. The length needed may also vary with what tires and lug nuts you use. If you plan to race, U.S. tracks usually require that the studs be long and protrude well beyond the nuts.

The Kelsey Hayes studs are special but you can use right hand threaded ones for both sides. The stud has a splined shank that holds the brake rotor to the wheel hub. They are pressed through the back of the rotor into the hub. I got mine from napa.

Here is what the studs look like for the Kelsey Hayes disc brakes on our a body cars. It is unique to that application. Dorman part number 610-130 is the right handed thread number. 610-131 was the left handed thread part number but are about impossible to find since they went obsolete.

I'd probably remove one of the existing disc brake wheel studs and match it up for the other side.

Drum and disc studs are typically a different application....

Sorry about not getting back to my thread earlier.
Firstly thanks for all comments and suggestions.
Since posting i have found the listing at Pentastar down here.

Part of my delay has been in picking up the discs, but i now have them.
i'll take up the suggestion to take out one of the ones I have and then look into ordering them.
Don't go holding your breath, but when i have a solution i will complete the post and let you know what way i went.

Thanks again for all your contributions! You blokes are good!:toothy8:
