66 Dart GT HT Whatsitgonnabe?

Thanks for all the input, guys! :prayer:
My feeling is that the Petty blue is a little more sky blue, but just a tad. I was also under the impression that basin street blue WAS petty blue. I think the polestar blue is more blue than petty in any case and since it is a color off a Volvo, there should be absolutely no problem getting that hue right.

IIRC, TB3 was known informally as Petty blue back in the day. The paint I used was PPG Shopline with a clear coat. The body is 2-step, the under hood and trunk compartments used 1-step paint. FWIW: The Volvo Rebel Blue would look good on your car, IMO.

RE: hue. Remember what I said about flop (paint appears to take on different hues in different light). The earlier photos were taken in full sun light. Photo below was taken with the same camera, lens, & car. The only difference this photo was taken in indirect light. Hard to believe it's the same paint.

Yes, it's really tricky to judge paint from photos. When I googled rebel blue, the pictures look different, all of them.

This latest pic of yours looks a lot more like how I picture petty blue.

Hi Anders,

What exactly did you use to clean that holley carb besides old fashioned elbow grease. It turned out really well. I have a carter 625 cfm carb i cleaned up that i am getting ready to rebuild, but it could be made cleaner like yours.

Matt

I bought a 5 liter jug of "Super de-greaser" meant for car exterior care, like a pre-wash. I soaked the parts in that for an hour or more. It didn't make the crud just rinse off but a little brushing with a light steel brush took most of it.

To get the oxides off I tried the wire wheel and that gave it such a good finish that I ended up using that over the whole thing. I was worried at first that it would eat up the material but it just cleaned it up and gave it a great shine.

I'll say it again: I love my wire wheel.

I need to get a bench grinder with a wire wheel attachment. I been meaning to do this for awhile. Multiple uses for one of these including putting cloth wheels on it for polishing stainless steel trim.

Thanks
Matt

I had one of those when I was young. Priceless. And it never wore out. The ones I use on my power drill wear out in no time and the bristles (?) keep falling off so my basement is full of them now.

Unboxing day!!!

Got a nice package from Mora and a pretty banged up box from the States. I hope nothing fell out of the two holes on the side ...

A set of Magnum manifolds. Large diameter outlet. :thumblef: Remains to be seen if I can make them work with all the other stuff that wants to occupy the driver's side space ...

And a load of other great stuff!

- A complete polyurethane bushing set!
- A much less crappy looking alternator bracket. Thanks Don! Will look great when cleaned up!
- Two torsion bar retention clips Thanks Don!
- A valve cover breather cap. For stove pipes. #-o Should've known ... That's what they had in '66. I don't. :banghead:
- Four (!) Upper Control Arm Adjustment bolts. Thanks Don! With nuts and washers! :prayer:
- The missing water pump cover bolt! The one that goes into the water jacket. Thanks AGAIN Don!

But there were also a set of old and crusty motor mounts and a long, heavy box with - I dunno - shock absorbers or something in it. Can't remember ordering that so that's going back, Don.

Don't send back to me! Send the crusty motor mounts and the long heavy box to Ulf!

Anders! Did you find my camshaft and lifters?

Yes he did! - the long heavy box with "shock absorbers or something in it" is yours! :D

Don't you just love the way stuff gets handled!

This was stuff I had laying around and since I didn't need them or was going to use them, you could make better use of them. Happy to be able to help out a little on your project!

I hope to be able to return the favor somehow some day, or at least pay it forward.

Hi Anders,

Looks like you got a bit o pirates treasure there matey. All those new and sparkly shiny bits and some nice free flowing magnum manifolds too.

Wow, with as long as my car is taking, maybe i need to ship it there for you to finish up for me. Does volvo have a similar color to daffodil yellow LOL

But seriously, you are making great progress.

Matt

Ouch, dont walk around down there barefoot. LOL

I sure did. Will be sending that, the pulley and the temp gauge up to you tomorrow. You wouldn't be interested in the stove pipe breather cap I accidentally bought?

Great news Anders. I'm so eager to finish the engine. Then I can consentrate on tranny and rear ens!

Alright! Got my dust cover inspection hatch in the mail! Thanks, 340Swinger70!

And take a look at my dad's HEI electronics! Eager to try it. He made these from 1970 up the the early 80:ies when (European :p) cars started having this from the factory. 400V DC on the primary side gives a very good spark. :D

If it works out well, think I'll make a modern design. His had some reliability issues ...

Oh, crap. The cover piece didn't fit after all.

Oh, well. At least it cleaned up nicely and I got the correct bolts ... Anybody have one for a SB 727?
.

Djakken invited me to ride with him in his '59 this morning to the Power Fall Market in Vara, a little less than an hour from here. After thinking about it I respectfully declined, I spent four hours yesterday in the car on that same road and even though the event itself and the ride with Per was tempting, I decided I needed a little peace and quiet more.

I'm grateful for the invite, though.

Looked through the parts in the suspension bushing kit and everything seems to be there. I wasn't aware that I would get the outer sleeve for the upper control arm bushings. I'm not sure I will be replacing those. Or should I? I'm a little worried I might break something since I don't have a proper press.

I'll need to find someone to turn or mill down my crank pulley. I know of a guy in Alingsås (the one who offered to make me stainless brake pistons for $12 each) but I'd rather find someone not associated with my work.

Also, I need to test fit my magnum exhaust manifolds. I think my steering box will be a problem. What's this rack and pinion I've read about? Is it expensive? Can I get it from another car?

I will look around this afternoon and see if I have one.

If you are going to the trouble of replacing some of your suspension parts, I would not skimp out and not do the UCA bushings. I'm sure you can do it!

I think your steering column will be a problem too! I have a set of those manifold and they look to be a big PITA to use. A member (I think he goes by HemiDenny ) is now making a set up to replace the torsion bars with coilovers and uses a R & P in the front. Do a quick search and you should find more info. I would love to have R & P but just cannot afford to do it to the wagon. There's a company in OZ that modifies the K Frame to use a rear mount R & P in the same place as the original centerlink.
