67 Dart 270...Project Old School

It was originally ordered with a 108 LSA, but Competition Cams ground it on 110 by mistake. That mistake saved me $50 (they had to discount it to me) and the engine idles smoother because of it. We will always wonder how much HP/torque got left on the table due to that mistake. I attempted to recreate the XE268H in a roller cam and in the LA 360 it idles nicely at 800 RPM and pulls hard past 6000 RPM.
 
After 2 years I finally got around to installing my QuickFuel secondary metering block with provisions for changeable jets. I am running a 3310 Holley with vacuum secondaries and a fixed metering block on the secondary side. The goal was to lean out the carb a bit, but you don't know what jets to even start with on the secondary side until you remove the secondary metering block and get the serial number. I ordered up a big box of Holley jets and some replacement gaskets. I actually loaded up the carb, jets and gaskets and did the conversion in my friends garage in Arkansas. I ended up jetting down 2 jet sizes front and rear as a starting point. Everything was going along nicely until I started to install the replacement gaskets I had ordered. It turns out they were wrong. Out came the Xacto knife and the trimming commenced. Some minor trimming and we were back in business...or so I thought.

When I got back home and reinstalled the carb, I could not get any accelerator pump shot. A quick shot of starting fluid and the car fired up and idled normally. I had to tear the carb down again to find the front bowl gasket was blocking the accelerator pump fuel hole. Out came the Xacto knife again, and the problem was solved. The car runs great, but I still need to weld in a bung so I can attach my wideband and see where I am for air/fuel ratio.

The other fun job I tackled recently was replacing the leaking oil filter adapter with one from Canton that utilizes the big, rubber O-ring to prevent leaks. Short story: I made a mess, cleaned it up, installed the Canton adapter, and now we have no more leaks from the oil filter adapter.

Over The winter I have been troubleshooting a battery drain issue. The car would sit for roughly 10 days with the battery tender hooked up and suddenly the car would be discharging faster then tender could charge. I would have to disconnect the battery from the car and recharge it. I went through pulling all the fuses and disconnecting circuits from the battery to finally find the issue was my 1 wire alternator. I disconnected the field wires from having constant power and that resolved the issue. Now I had to turn my 1 wire alternator into a 2 wire alternator. This also gave me the opportunity to clean up the mess of wires on the back of the "supposedly 1 wire" alternator.

I went through and shortened up the wiring to clean up the mess and added a plug for the field wires, so I could easily remove the alternator in the future.

I connected the field wires to a switched 12V supply under the hood and my discharge problem was solved.

Next item on the to-do list was installing the trunk seal. Here are the tools for this job: Clothes pins and sealer adhesive.

Next I installed the passenger door seal.

The door seal was easier then the trunk seal...once I found the screws. The door seal install wasn't very photogenic, but I will try to capture some shots when I put on the driver side door seal tonight.

I did finally install the driver's side door seal. I started on the top at the front of the door. The first thing you notice is this bolt that sticks up right were you need to screw down the seal.

They think of everything and include a slot in the seal to cover the bolt.

You fit the slot over the bolt head and screw it down. I then slowly worked my way around getting all the clips into holes surrounding the door.

I had one hole I had to ream out slightly to get the clip to snap in place. Other then that the install went very smoothly.

The Dart was sold over the weekend to a member here, ATW. Super nice guy and I am hoping he will start a new thread so I can follow along as he takes over the build.
