68 Dart damaged instrument cluster circuit board

Hi guys, I have another query whilst my cluster is out... in the attached pic I it shows a "spring" type bracket attached to the body/sheetmetal surrounding the steering column, which I have just rested the turn signal flasher unit can on/in. Can someone please tell me exactly what this bracket is actually meant to hold/support ? I thought it might actually be the flasher can unit itself but I can't seem to get it to slot in as it might/should, and didn't want to force, break anything else if I can help by trying to force anything!... thanks for any feedback:)

That's what it's for. Not all flasher cans are exactly the same size. If they don' fit, I usually just tape them to the harness.
 
I didn't read all the posts, but did see Oz, so shipping to be considered , this may be a repeat.
I repaired the plug pins by putting a slightly expanded cotter pins in from opposite side, up inside to hold/reinforce the contacts, then solder.
