Looking for a little guidance on installing the clips for the stainless trim that goes around the convertible top at the back. It's extremely nerve wracking pushing those clips on over new paint. It would be disastrous if the paint chipped in a spot that isn't covered by the trim. Are you laying any tape down first and pushing them on over the tape or just over the paint? Some of the clips are going on OK,, but some are not. It seems there are a couple areas where the metal is thicker then in other places.(2 pieces of metal overlapping each other so it's twice as thick) The clips don't want to go down all the way because there isn't room for two pieces of metal up in the top edge of the clip. It looks like all the clips are the same and there aren't special clips to go in those other locations. I'm thinking about grinding/sanding the inside edge where the metal is two pieces thick. If the inside piece of metal is thinner and has a chamfer on it, maybe the clip would push down all the way?

If you lay the trim on the body you'll see how much gets covered

Tape can't hurt as long as you can get it all out

Here was the issue. The metal was thicker in certain places which made the clip stick way out from the body on the inside. If I would have left it that way, I think the convertible top would have rubbed on the sharp edge of the clip. I ended up grinding down the inside lip in some spots which let the clip fit better. The pictures show the before and after.

I think what you did is fine. you may have been able to open up the clip a bit and install it without issue The back side of the clip only is there to protect the top from the point of the screws. the clip does not need too much spring pressure to function correctly

Someone did this to the center and right of center holes on my 67 Dart Convert #2
