68 Valiant Hellcat Swap

-
Nice car! I'd have to double check with my notes at the shop I remember it being around 120 ft/lbs in the end. Since it was a TTY bolt it was an initial torque + a rotation of a certain amount of degrees.
Thanks, mother Milodon is sending me correct pickup tube now. They knew instantly what the issue was when explained it fit perfect but pointed to wheel. Enclosed is a pix of another great part you might find handy. Solves marriage of modern Tremec to old style U joint. It is a GM part but fits perfect.

Love it!, I’m in the same boat, I’m pro touring a 70 cuda with a hellcat crate motor, thank god the e body has a lot more room in the engine bay! My car is still at the body shop, so I’ve been sourcing parts for the last 6 months waiting to get it back and start the thrashing, couple questions, so are you guys using the factory hellcat intercooler, pump, lines & expansion tank?, also, does Be cool make that radiator specific for the hellcat motor?, and how does that milodon oil pan work? I’ve heard a lot of guys have problems with them leaking, and are using the Stef’s oil pan?, thanks for any help, I know you guys are busy trying to solve all these problems that pop up with these projects, I’ve talked to so many people on these swaps, and it seems I get all diff. Answers, and it seems half have never worked on “ their” cars, well I can’t afford to have someone build my car, so it’s all on me, thanks again

Yep! Sadly I am in same boat, I am doing it myself as well. My only real point of reference is my own toil and trouble. To your point at last car show found a Mopar with modern Hemi in it, located the owner thinking to myself finally I can get some answers....... Nope, all he could do was shrug and reply to the question with "I dunno I just wrote a check". Arghh. I too have a couple of E bodies as well as my A body that has the build thread on here. I am running both Be cool radiator in the Cuda and a Griffin in the Demon. I like both. And I utilized a Dakota Digital dash after much frustration on the Gen 3. Problem solved. I have used as much of the plumbing as possible for cost savings including the monster booster and master cylinder. I figure once I am up and running I can switch it out later. I am limited on funds so have to be choosy on where I spend the cash. I hate the booster!

Sublime one, do I see a scat pack next to the cuda?.... I have a sublime hellcat, so I have some reference on some of the " factory" parts & where they go, and yes, the problem is trying to find a less expensive way to build this car, , I'm painting my cuda sublime also...love it!.... lucky for me I'm going race car style, no power steering, no power brakes, no wipers, 2 seats & a roll bar... Another question, how do you get a tach signal off the hellcat pcm to run a Auto meter tach?

The tach is an issue. In the end I had to admit defeat and sent the PCM to Hot wire in Ark. Chris owns the joint and he reflashed so now I am using a Dakota dash that has tach integrated. I can check my wire diagram notes on the tach input details. Likely be much the same other than termination point becomes Auto meter vs Dakota. And yes, good eye it is a Scat Pack next to Cuda. Beauty and the beast if you will.

Darin,
Not sure where you are in Mn but Fargo is on your border. Should you ever want to swing by my shop you are totally welcome. Many of us on multiple threads get together on occasion, we always have a blast. Are you going to Mopars in the Park this year? It is just East of Minneapolis, a bunch of us are hooking up to drink beer and lie to each other. Several, myself included are staying at the residence Inn in St Paul Woodbury. I have had several FABO folks in my shop and it is a hoot! This forum is littered with a bunch of good folks!

I'm in Elk River, so only 4 hrs to Fargo, I bought my cuda last Feb. In Fargo actually....my buddies & I go to mopars in the park every year, and this year it's moving to the new location in Stillwater, I would love to meet & talk with you guys to discuss project ideas

We will see you there!

Darin,
Great talking to you, per our conversations here are the pix. I can take a better one of the dash if you would like. The wiring mess is kind of a before and after. I tried breaking it down into sub groups on bench and finally ended up with the vertical solution. It is spread out as it is on motor and all labeled. I will check notes on tach once I get out in shop and send you a more detailed solution. I remember it was a bugger but don't remember exactly how I did it. I keep notes for this very reason. I also created a tagging system which I can send a pix of if you want. That is what all the little Manila tags are on the Demon build thread are. I have a strong case of CRS! Not trying to derail your thread! Teach you to ask for pictures! Hah! Surf the portion of FABO on swaps, there are a bunch of guys way more sophisticated doing a lot nicer job than I am. Many on here are very talented.

I really like that dash, I may go that route ,if I can't get a Auto meter tach to work, good talking to you & I'm sure I'll be calling with more questions.....all these projects take is money & time... right?..... Thanks again

I'm using all the factory Challenger Hellcat cooling as far as the supercharger goes. As for BeCool, I called them up and told them what I was doing and drew me up a radiator that they felt would do best in my application. And as far as the Milodon oil pan, I have not yet started or put oil in the engine yet so that is to be determined. Fingers crossed!

That dash caught my eye too...

I need to research more. I had been thinking about Classic Industries insert for my Barracuda, but not sure I want to go that route.

Biggest question is will the speedo work with a TR6060?

The Dakota dash pictured in my previous post does work with the 6 speed. If that is the dash you are referring to. The bigger challenge was mounting the clutch pedal and booster. It gets real tight on the pedals area.

That's why I'm going to use a GPS speedo, that way you can use any size tire, any rear gear, and not have to mess with the output on the tranny

You should try Speedhut Guages their tach will work and is probably cheaper than speedhut

I called Dakota Digital today, they said just need a speed signal from the trans. I have a TR6060 out of a '10 Challenger, they do not have a speed sensor in them. A if you buy a 6 speed from Tremec they do have speed sensors. Which do you have?

If I can get the Dakota Digital to pickup a signal, they have a speedometer calibration that can be done while driving.

I'm using a T 56 6 spd

Some more updates on the car...
Pulled the running gear out to do some body work
IMG_2149.jpg
Welded in a core support brace to tie in the frame rails from US Car Tool
IMG_2162.jpg
Also mocking up a reinforcement for the vertical support I cut for the intercooler
IMG_2163.jpg
Mounted everything to the firewall before starting bodywork
IMG_2166.jpg

IMG_2193.jpg

Installed a 10.5 inch McLoud RXT twin disk clutch
as well as a matching 130 tooth flywheel
IMG_2190.jpg
Ran my Oil Temperature sensor to the remote oil filter and ran some lines to a bulkhead.
IMG_2210.jpg
IMG_2211.jpg
IMG_2227.jpg
Everything primed
IMG_2230.jpg

Laid down some paint
IMG_2388.jpg
IMG_2389.jpg
Mocking up my back wheels before I narrow the 8 3/4 rear; wheels are Weld RTS S71's with a 5.5 BS on a 10 inch wide rim.
IMG_2417.jpg

Had to modify the passenger side harness to route the PDC wire inside the car. Also gives the passenger side apron some more breathing room.
IMG_2430.jpg

When routing the PDC wiring in the car I also had to reposition the splice for the alternator wiring. I also moved the wires for the starter to be mounted on the drivers side of the motor.
IMG_2435.jpg

Everything mounted on the firewall for the last time

This build makes me cringe when I think of my project. Very impressive. Serious skills.
