69 Dart 340 Swinger Street/Road Race build

They were not. I drilled and tapped them to 3/8” NPT. The ID of the -8 AN and 3/8” NPT are the same so I felt no need to go to 1/2”NPT. Plus the smaller the hole in the intake, the less chance of cracking the aluminum when you tighten the fitting.

Final port match on the M1. The Speedmaster heads are near perfectly matching the gaskets so I didn’t bother.

Little more progress today. My sump cane in so I fit and welded it in. I still need to leak test it and then paint the tank black.

I had done my darts tank in flat white. I'm thinking I had used VHT header paint. Thought it might reflect some of the pavements heat.

That is a good point. Could you post a pic of how it turned out in white? Maybe I’ll go with light grey instead of black

I'm not sure if I have a picture of the tank installed. I know for sure I don't have one that is on a card...Polaroid maybe.

I was able to measure and pick up the correct pushrods today. Then my son gave a hand adjusting the valves before I assembled the remainder of the engine.

Back on the Dart today. I finished welding the sump on the original fuel tank. Then I cleaned it out and leak tested it with zero leaks. My kids spent about an hour removing the items my brother and I stuffed down the filler neck 30+ years ago. I removed the factory undercoating, prepped and painted it. I also had time to reassemble the heater box with the new heater core and all new foam, clips, and seals.

Looking great. What paint did you use in the gas tank?
Thank you. It’s just Rustoleum Professional grey spray paint. I plan to replace the tank in a year or so with an Aeromotive tank so I just wanted to clean it up and paint it since it was pretty gross.

Also, my Spec clutch came in. I ran a similar clutch on my sand drag Jeep with great luck. HD Luk clutches would only last 800 miles and then I switched to a Spec clutch and never had a problem in 5,000 miles. With my plans for this car, I didn’t want to mess around.

My son and I were able to drop the engine it today. I need to fabricate serpentine accessory mounts and I want to make sure they all clear. It good to see an engine sitting in there, last time there was an engine in the car was 1996 LOL

No, not yet. I haven’t had a lot of time to work on the Dart since June began. I returned back to work on the 1st which took a lot of time away. On top of that, my son races 5 different motocross series all across Illinois so we have 2 races at 2 different tracks every weekend through September plus one night a week practice. Also, I tore apart my deck to replace a bunch of boards and re-stain it which has been a big project. I should be back on the Dart next week though!
