That's awesome Paul! Your pics should help a lot of folks. Yours are from a 70 Swinger 340, non-blackout hood, and mine is a 71 Demon 340 with the blackout hood. I was trying to determine the original treatment of the underside of the chrome scoop bezels. Given your pics, and given what mine looked like, here is what I see:
Your pics shows the remnants of what would have been black for the location where the attaching screws go and that also face forward. Makes sense - mine have that too. What is interesting is in your picture I snipped below and annotated, the underside area of your bezels appear to be polished where I sketched the word "color." In this area on mine, they appear to have been a flat silver/argent color just as member
@str12-340 states above. (I polished mine up just cleaning them as they were quite dirty and had overspray from a prior repaint on them.) Yours look to have the remains of blue paint - at least over near the black attaching area. Not sure what that is about or why but clearly that was body color for some reason. The rest of yours appear to be polished also. I suspect like many things on these cars, there were intentional differences and I'm just not smart enough to know all of them!
I'm going to paint the "color" area on mine a flat silver color to match what I found out on here and like they appeared to be. I had considered leaving them polished but as bright as they are, I don't want there to be some type of reflection on the black hood of either light or engine parts given the proximity to the holes in the hood under the scoops!
Thx for taking the time to post those pics for all to see.
