71 Duster 360 (new project)

-
I think our troubles are gone...We think this home/garage is haunted or demonized....possessed or something...or Indian burial grounds...LOL...and it has infected that Fuster..

We had a couple of Stockers parked there between Firebird national event and the divisional/national event in vegas for a few weeks...anyway...one of the Pontiac Stockers broke right on the starting line last weekend...So our ghost left with the Pontiacs....LOL...

LOL

anyway...got valve springs swapped out on eddy heads...new seals...set spring height at 1.80 as per springs..140 lbs at seat...

fel pro 1008 head gaskets showed up this afternoon...got heads bolted on...put lifters in bores...pushrods...put 1.6 crane rockers on....adjusted valves..

got Eddy Victor intake off shelf...washed the dust off it...sit it on engine...****...I can slide that intake all over the place...never knew it had been milled....pulled old mopar M1 that I had used on Demon last year...got old gaskets off..cleaned up it....fits perfect on heads...

took some pictures...but my laptop is not see my flash card....so will post later...

tomorrow i need to get transbrake old of other 904...then install in this 904...using TA 4400 series converter...same as in my Demon.....get motor and trans bolted together...and maybe take shot at putting in the Fuster...

Ok..pictures...had just gotten done degreeing in cam...set engine at TDC before taking degree wheel off crank..

CNC Eddy heads done by Modern Cylinder Heads back in Xmas of 2008....

Two day points race a couple weekends after MaTS.... I'm thinking the madness aint gonna stop!!

Another day....

bought a set of hooker 5204 headers last year off craigslist for 100 buck...nice set...went to put them on this Fuster...passenger side slide right on...driver side...fought with them for some time...the header won...would not clear the manual steering box.....took them off...put the old set of TTi headers i have that used to be on this car....

moving on...got everything hooked up under neath...starter...nss...transbrake...linkage...everything except the rear of the driveshaft...

finally had to go get some oil...thought i still had 5 qts laying around..nope...pour oil...put on oil filter..spun oil pump with speed handle...60 psi...and nothing on the floor...

put intake manifold on....could not believe how easy this intake went on...could screw all the bolts in by hand...

anyway...forgot to buy tranny fluid...but I did not forget the dogs and cats treats.....

gotta put distributor in...engine at tdc no. 1.....the alternator will be the funnest...with eddy heads and square back alternator...have to shim **** up....got Tonya car their to copy...and Fire it.......

everything needs cleaning...

Took a "few" minutes but finally got the alternator in and pulleys lined up...drive shaft bolted in...the one wire on the nss hooked up....904 dipstick shoved in..,,,distributor is in....new cap and rotor....

gotta hook up a couple wires....and put water in radiator...and put tranny fluid in it....going to see if it will fire in morning...

Fired new engine this morning....got water seepage at the thermostat housing... letting engine cool ...

need to fix that...hook up the drag link...and top off trans...and see if it works..LOL

shift it thru gears and test transbrake

When you assemble you AN fittings and lines, do you leak check them? Get any fuel smell coming from them?

If they are assembled correctly there is no reason to check them. If they do leak more than likely you buggered up the inner rubber hose. Make a new one!

I haven't hooked them up. So I have no idea if I did well or not

the AN fitting I seam to have problems with is the swivel ones.....if they are leaking...then the inter hose is screwed up as said...

ok..fixed water leak...new housing and gasket...plus a little rtv...had to install motor mount bolts..engine was jumping all over the place...got header collectors extensions on...got drag link on...but not tighten down yet...

still gotta get the trans fluid checked.....tomorrow...

did i mention i got the header tethers back on too....

anyway....trans is full of good old wally world type f .......

transbrake worked as it is suppose....

start washing and loading cars in the morning...head out for that LONG drive in the later afternoon...just need to get cars unloaded and teched....

got a truck load of parts for swap meet...bumpers...hoods...headers...trim...heater boxes..master cylinder with boosters....hub caps...grilles...front valance for dart/demon...

well...driveline shopped called this morning....case is screwed up...so that ends that adventure for now...LOL...one of the caps will not seat...you can see daylight threw it...went and picked up the parts ..no charge...they had everything done and was trying to set the backlash......But I got another 489 case...going to give it to a friend who set up the local stocker guys 8 3/4. Yeah..I got the pinion depth tool also...have not tried to do one yet...only had the tool about 15 yrs...will use it some day...LOL

yeah tethers....what a joke...60 bucks for 10 dollars worth of parts..but you need that approved tag ...LOL....yes I modified mind tonight also....as the headers both TTI and hookers have fully welded on collectors...but gotta tether the 10 inch extension that bolts onto the collector....I originally was going to tether the extension to one of the primary tubes...but that turned into a great PIA as trying to find a place on the primary tube you can the clamp around....so I am tethering the welded collector to the extension......what gets me ...is the Tech inspector going to actually check to see if the clamps are tight and installed correctly or...just look for the tag.....if they are looking just for the tag then the tether is no better then the 3 bolts that hold the extension on....rant done..
Tony can you post pics of your tethered headers?i,ve been holding off on ordering these as I,m not sure which lengths to order yet.Any pics would be great. Thanks:D

Wow they used a pic of your header in the ad? J/K. Thanks for the link and good luck this weekend at the MATS.:D

We got everything to the track this afternoon....got cars off trailer...i teched my car...the girls had to go to school so they will tech in morning.....

Hopefully smooth sailing this weekend Tony. I know there was a live feed available at some point the last few years so I may see what i can find to maybe check in on the proceedings from time to time.

Oh, and say hi to Ted for me if you see him. Pretty sure he's going just to hang out.

Ted...LOL....

He is staying in a spare bedroom at my youngest daughter house...plus he is driving my 73 Duster fro transportation...,,,He drove my pickup truck this afternoon towing one of the cars out to the track...
