72 petty blue twister "BACKWARDS BUILD"

-
yea, as of right now, my goal was still 5,500.00, but i am past it by 500.00 cause the car was basically 1,000.00 rahter than the scamp being 500.00.lol

Moving forward one step at a time :thumblef:
I see I am not the only one working on gravel :bball:
Like you I am getting things changed out so I can keep driving it and when that is all dun I will be driving my ramcharger "I need to drop my 360 in" then I can start the removal of my head for a new one with bigger valves and shaved about 80 thousands.
Then I will paint my engine bay while the head is off.
I bet you can't wait to get it on the road :shock:
Keep up this quick pace build Joe :notworth::thumblef:

ok, yea, i havent updated in a while. got new wheels/tires under it, all brake work done. everything is done minus the paint.

speaking of paint, i bought the paint yesterday, and i have beed da'ing the car all last night and this morning, prepping for a few body work spots. i am hoping to have the car in primer by thusday morning, and that night, i will do one final wet sand, and will be painting it friday afternoon here, as long as it is 65+ weahter they are calling for.

btw, it has been tagged and insured for a few days now, but i did not want to just put the bumpers back on, and pull them in a little while to paint, so i figured i would just wait and paint it first.

so, i decided that the weather will not be much better than it has been for a few days, and for a couple more, so, i decided to pull the car back apart, and GET THAT PAINT ON!. ENJOY

right on scedule to have it painted tommorow afternoon. cannot wait, then i have to somehow sell something small to get the stripe kit.lol

Man that doesn't look bad. Is that where you painted it?

doesnt look half bad at all....how much orange peel do you have? Single stage? Base/clear? water based?

Looking good!I bet now you wish the engine compartment was not black?Still looks good though. Are you selling or keeping this one?

Well, this car took the place of the 5,500.00 340-4 speed scamp i was building, but decided to go with this car first.

I do not have any orange peel, but it has like dimples in the paint in a few spots. I chose to stay within the budget, and went with single stage paint. Cause i want the body to be perfect before i use the base/clear.

I chose single stage for the fact that this car is a every day driver. It is not intended for show. Do not get me wrong. It looks good, and all the body work turned out great.

As far as the engine bay goes. At first, i had the entire under the hood black, and this morning, i decided to tape up and do it the way i did. I like it the way it is very much. Plus, the hood has the v24 and with the scoops, i think it will blend very nicly

1) for the hydraulic clutch,, did you buy a kit or are those salvage yard parts
2) how did you come up with the template for the hump?

the car looks good, keep the Petty story alive!

This response is pretty late to the party, but in my experience, it does make sense to set the motor, THEN install the headers. I get the motor bolted to the trans with the trans mount bolted in place to keep the motor/trans unit from moving fore and aft. I then use an engine hoist or a floor jack to lift the motor and shift it left or right to slide the pipes in. I hope this helps someone.

i bought the kit from another member on here. it is a chucksclassics kit. it is nice, but i got it too low, so the pedal is hard to push.lol

i came up with a template when i cut the hole for the hump in my scamp, and figured that i can use this to put a hump in any a-body!. and it was right on spot

so, late last night, it downpured for like 20 minutes, and then the sky cleared right back up. but i had a full cup of paint. i could not find anything to use it on. so i set it on the bench till about 11 pm last night, and went to pull out the good bumpers i had.SO I THOUGHT i gave 2 sets of bumpers away, and gave my good set away too. so i had a sert of rusted bumpers left. OH, THE PAINT!!.. SO, I BROUGHT OUT THE ANGLE GRINDER, AND WENT TO TOWN ON THEM, and then i hit them with 80 then 180 grit sandpaper onb my da. man, i love the look of the car with color matched bumpers.

my wife hates them, and offered to buy me a new chrome set to replace them, and i told her hell no.
so, all day i have been putting the car back together............................

You have done some great work in a short time. The car looks awsome. I am thinking of color match bumpers as well, but my car will be plumcrazy.

You need to put B5 blue stripes on there, I always thought that would look cool, and I have never seen it done that way. Look inside the door where the B5 interior color comes up to the petty blue, looks cool..

^^^^^^ i already ordered the white stripe

^^^^^^^^ thanks!. maybe this summer, we can meet up and get a cruise going.lol

hey, not at all. i actually get the thrill out of doing all the work, then seeing someone else ejoy my rewards of all the labor.lol
