motor home trans adjusted the kickdown to 72 inch pounds and backed off 2 1/4 turns. hooked up the lokar kickdown cable , and it dont want to shift to 2nd or drive. i then unhooked the kick cable off carb and now it shifts to 2nd and drive takes a little bit of messin with the throttlebut will go in eventually any body no wats up with that, when i backed off 2 1/4 it was really loose until i tightened nut up

it is possible that the govener is stuck.also depending on the age/condition of the tranny it could have debris in the valve body.did it do this before you adjusted the band?

first time drivin,it was a new build for my car. the tranny came from a motor home the guy i got it from said it drove that 30ftr fine. i notice that if i rev it high in 2nd it will finally kick to drive. it was sitting for about 5 yrs

A few possibilities exist.

1. Is it full on fluid? If not fill it and test drive it again.

2. Since it's a rebuilt trans. it's possible they put a valve in backwards in the valve body when they assembled it.

3. Also possible is the governor or a shift valve in the VB is sticking cause it sat so long and got a little rust on it.

Try installing a can of K&W Trans-X that you can buy at Autozone for about $8. I've had it free up stuck valves before and never had a problem again. If it does nothing for it inspect the valve body to see if everything's put together right and all the valves work freely. If that still don't fix it check the governor for problems.

BTW: Was a shift kit installed?

Hi I guess you know that the lokar T handle in front of the gear shifting handle has to be pulled up to shift it into first from second. The damn thing will shift from first into neutral without pulling up the T handle but then the lokar shifter will lock up in netural and sometimes the only way to get it to shift out of neutral is to disconnect the cable from the gear shift lever. Then play with the lokar shifter and see which way it will move. It you can get it to move into the park position, move the lever on the transmission to the park position and adjust the cable until it slips on and off the pin the cable slides on. You will need to shift it into each gear and check the cable to insure that it slides on and off the pin on the shift lever. REMEMBER THE T HANDLE IN FRONT OF THE SHIFTER MUST BE PULLED UP TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO NEUTRAL. YOU CAN THEN PULL THE SHIFTER REARWARDS IN A ROCKING MANNER TO SHIFT INTO FIRST,SECOND AND THIRD. WHEN SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO FIRST REMEMBER TO PULL UP THE T HANDLE IF NOT AND YOU ACCIDENTLY SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IT WILL STICK AGAIN. I DON'T KNOW WHY LOKAR MADE IT THAT WAY. SOME SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE THE SET UP ON MY 1968 DODGE D100. IT DROVE ME NUTS UNTIL I GOT INTO THE HABIT OF PULLING UP THAT T HANDLE. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

i have a b&m prostick shifter with a lokar kickdown cable i have readjusted the kickdown nut and shifts to sec fine drive only when its cold i hook the lokar cable up on my carb and only first works 2nd and drive are like neutral fluid is fine
