I am wanting to putting a 440 BB into 74 Duster, the BB is out of a 78 Truck, are the 727 Transmissions different sizes? If so which one is the best for this build?

The truck one will work. It’s a heavy duty tranny. You will likely have to change the extension housing if u have a consol. K

going to be floor shift automatic, I am trading in a core tranny to TCI for a new 727 street/strip tranny

All passenger car 727's have the same overall length and crossmember mount configuration. Some trucks and vans have different tailshaft/tailstock lengths (always shorter). Many, many A-bodies are running BB motor conversions with standard passenger car 727's.... in my '69 Dart the top of the tunnel was tight to the bellhousing area, by on my '71 Demon it was not an issue. Pic of what you have, and/or the PK number at the drivers side pan rail may help further.

A word of caution. That year (76 and up I think) of trans has different spline angle on the output shaft. If you want to change to a car type output you need a later output shaft. Those transmissions have better internals that make them stronger but also use more power to operate.
Cope racing transmissions is a great source for parts.

I'm building a h/d 78 non lock up for my dart if it's the long tail shaft that's what you'll want as the car trans are long tailshaft

Ok so here it is. This came from the transmission descriptions on Cope racing transmissions web site. Notice that the contact angle of the planetary gears are different angles in different years. If you want to use the planetary gears and internals from your later trans you must find the output shaft with the correct spline face angles.

He never asked about swapping internals (the OP). He said he wanted to get a complete unit......

My response was to assist Oldkimmer and others faced with this question. An earlier statement was made that the truck trans will work. And if you read my comments carefully you will note that I back his statements and provide additional useful information so that the OP can make the best decisions for what they want to do.
An example would be that he gets the transmission for free with the engine purchase. In that case he of course would want to use that transmission. With the information provided, that swap is easy.
