76 breaks problem

How many adjuster slots does your backing plate have?

65 to 70 Mustang 10X1.75 rear backing plates (I believe ford 9" "small" looks like from the Ebay listing they are KH manufactured)

(Note that there is only one adjuster slot)

Also note the difference in the stamping and the bolt spacing and center hole compared to A body 7 1/4 and 8 3/4 10x1.75 backing plates

68 and older Chrysler A Body 10x1.75 8-3/4 backing plate
(Note that there are two adjuster slots)

Here are some photos of my 67 7 1/4 10x1.75 brakes Small bolt pattern.

This rear is the OEM rear in my late father's 67 dart he bought new in 67

I’m learning a lot from this thread and I don’t even have a dog in the fight here. Thanks for the detailed info/problem solving from everyone here.

New theory...

Rear is out of a 66 - 68 B body /6 car with 10x1.75 brakes

  1. backing plate looks close to 67 10x1.75, 7 1/4" backing plate
  2. no piston keepers like 69 and newer
  3. brake hardware is 68 and older
  4. shoes and drum are correct for 10x1.75
  5. bolt pattern is 5x4.5

Perch to perch

(Perches MAY have been moved... measure the distance outside of one to inside of the other or other center to center method

A Body is 43"
B Body is 44"

Drum to drum These are 8 3/4 measurements as provided here An accurate 8 3/4" rear axle width list so they may not translate exactly to 7 1/4

A body 57 1/8” (or 57 13/16” for BBP axles and brakes)
B body
  • '65-'67= 59 1/2"
  • '68-'70= 60 1/8"
