8-3/4 center chuck- 741 case
Is there a difference in the pinion seals between a 489, 741 and 742 case?

I noticed mine is leaking. And I do not remember what kinda car the center chuck came out of for reference.
Thanks!

Got my answer. Thank you!
Curious to find out what the cause of the pinion seal leak was. I installed a new seal on a friends 8 3/4" rear & it leaks too. (I did install it properly also)

Same thing on my dad's car, I'm wondering if it's leaking from the seal or the outer pressed in shell.

The yoke surface could have a groove worn in it too, allowing it to not seal properly. Or your pinion bearings could be shot.

I always either put a little RTV on the yoke splines or under the flat washer to help keep oil from seeping out through the splines.
(just in case that’s the problem)

My issue is a 50 year old center chuck and a heavy foot.
Yep
