8 3/4 vs 8 1/4 weight

-
Since this has been brought back.up, I guess I should weigh in. See what i did there.
I removed my 1973 8 1/4 Dart Sport 321:1 sure grip 10" drums that my car was built with new with (340 car)
And installed A Body 8 3/4, Moser Axles with Big Bolt Pattern, Dana Power Lock and 11x2.5" drums from a truck. Dana Power Lock, 430 gears. But real reason I have 2.76, 2.94, 3.23, 3.55, 3.91, 4.10 and 4.30 gear sets here , and the ease pf changing ratio was why. It stops fine but guess I could loose weight and stop better (maybe?) If I put my TSM disk brake kit on it but goes and stops just fine.

Everybody’s gonna think I’m crazy, but since my engine is mostly stock, I’m considering swapping the 8 3/4 for an 8 1/4. IF it saves weight.
OK I’m ready...Bring it

thread is over two years pld but here is my opinion. you'll need a different length driveshaft. seems like a waste of time weakening the rear end like that for a minimal (if any) weight savings.. but hey, its not my time or money so go for it..
