Hi guys, Would it be alright to use the flex plate out of my 273 and put it on my 340 with a 360 cast crank. The motor has been internally balanced. I read on another site that you can't do that. Is it to week? Has anybody had any luck using a Alabama torque converter, they seem to be really cheap. Or do you get what you pay for, just like everything else. Bob

yes you can use the 273 plate on a 340.. personally i like to use an sfi approved one but your way will work... even if it wasn't internally balanced all you would need to do is weld weights to the convertor...

as for convertors go.. you get what you pay for... but it really depends what you want to do with the car....

I have the flex plate off the original 273 bolted to my 340, so far -- so good. But all I have done is to drive it in and out of the shop about 100 times. :)
