904 trans issues in need of help

Have a 904 trans that will pull in reverse first an second no noise not slipping but sounds like you dropped a metal garbage can down the stairs filled with rocks in drive . Replaced the slip yoke on driveshaft as a cheap maybe fix ujoint was bad anyway. the fluid is fresh an clean with new filter an full. Anyone have a idea short of ripping it out to rebuild it.i thought could be flex plate but it should make noise in all gears I would think . An yes I know I need 2 clean the shop

Can't hurt to remove the cover and inspect.

Time to pull it out, sounds like low roller clutch failure to me.
Drop the pan and guess the mess.

So just for clarification; you're saying that
1) at Zero mph, there is NO noise in manual low, nor in reverse? but
there is noise in Drive @ zero mph.
2) the trans drives the car in either position without slipping?

Ya no noise in park reverse first 2nd an pulls finally have time to pull the pan off today will post in a few hours

Transmission fluid complety clean no metal an flex plate isnt cracked as far as i can tell put a new filter an fluid in now its sliping first gear starting out but 2nd an 3rd hold but noise is gone. I'm ordering a new trans I'm done playing with it
