A-Bodies...Big Motors / New Hemi Duster - FINAL ASSEMBLY

-
Geez, this thing almost done yet? I hang out in FBBO most of the time,,,cause I don't have an "A" body for about 40 years. But I came over to see what's going on. This thread started in 2011,but hey,,,,,you take your time! Perfection don't happen overnight.

HEY GUYS:thumbsup:

Come on now.....are they ever done?.......and thanks for checking in.
Adding a power rack this winter, the aluminum Dana will sit till next winter. At this point....just fine tuning /tweeking.

The California Flash restoration is top priority whenever K packages (a couple a week) are not being built. Additionally, since getting the HDK shop squared away, several customers have brought their hot rods to the new shop for the HDK conversion.

Always busy with a big grin on my face.

You saw the car at the evening car show at the dealership at Carlisle a few years back. I noticed your car when you pulled in, all the HemiA-bodies were all lined up!

Thought this was another UNfinished project,,,,,,,,,,,CRS!

Projects are NEVER finished. And where in the heck is South Mountain? Covers a large area :)

Jim, about 15 minutes south of Carlisle. That weekend will have Mopar racing and cruise in on Friday night.

Thursday night is normally a kickoff show, then hit the fairgrounds Friday AM and head to South Mountain 20 or 30 minute drive and make some passes.

Never made it to that strip/ From google earth it appears to be a cow pasture. But did make to the Mason-Dixon raceway a bit further away for the 348-409 Reunion a few years back. When it was at Carlisle.

In my 25+ years of doing Carlisle,I don't remember Carlisle being involved with anything @ M>D> raceway. They promoted South Mountain Fridays for MOPAR day. A few years back SM raceway closed,so Carlisle events built that tiny autocross track ON the fairgrounds. My friend Mike Natoli bought the track and made a galient effort to be ready for Chrysler.but the gent that was setting up the new time board and all the electronics passed away like a week before Carlisle. So Mike had a couple of kids at the stripe with flags, winner got the flag raised.....LMOL

I cant believe you've spent all this time commenting and helping me out on my threads with advice and i've yet to see this thread on yours until now. Amazingly clean car. I admire and appreciate the attention to detail for sure. Mine isn't quite as clean and as well put together as yours, but very nicely done. I feel ashamed its taken me this long to find your thread.

You and I are a lot a-like.... the hard stuff gets done immediately. The impossible takes a day or two.

Mopar to ya'

Pictures of the new Winters Performance aluminum Dana 60 differential with Strange axles for the silver Hemi Duster. This will complete the aluminum intensive drivetrain in this car which already includes an aluminum Griffin radiator, an all aluminum 426 Hemi, a Passon aluminum cased A833 4 speed trans, an aluminum Gear Vendors O.D. and an aluminum Denny's drive shaft. Note: the ends won't be welded on until the 4-link brackets & shock mounts are slid on to the axle tubes.

This rearend, which is rated for 1500 HP and contains a 4.56 ring and pinion, was held up for a couple of months due to Winters designing an supplying it's own proprietary center section after deeming that a Tru-Trac wasn't strong enough.

You might recognize the Winters name as a major supplier of quick change rearends over the years for midgets, sprint cars, champ cars and street rods. Winters also offers complete rearend packages for stock cars such as ARCA and NASCAR.

That is one nice rear, what does she cost ???

around $4k....ready to add your brakes and bolt in. My friend and fellow builder Mark in Florida sells them and since he bought several K packages for various builds, I wanted to return the favor and buy one.

Plan was to put it in this past winter along with a power rack up front, but with the Flash restoration, and a lot of K frame builds, I decided to wait until next winter. I got as far as installing the P/S pump (which is now removed for the summer )......so I got that goin' for me.

tomorrow morning....as long as it is not raining...the Drag Radials do not like the water

Drag radials don't appreciate 30 degree weather either, as I found out in December here in Iowa. I went to the QT store to check my air pressure, topped all t he tires off, then left. Got on it a bit in second gear of the torque flight and WA LAAAAAA. It's been a long time since fish tailed the rear end. Long time since I've had a real Mopar too. 25 years.

Great weather finally in Ohio.....drove the 90 miles down to Good Guys in Columbus. The Mariott off 161 hosts the show crowd with a great barbecue and music. Met a FABO reader or two for some great B.S. and bench racing. What a blast. The Duster likes to go any speed......mostly 65 @ 2300 rpm. Joining me, was Brother Weeb in the 383 Duster. We headed back to Findlay around 10pm for a great nigh time cruise home.....and we have the bug spatter to prove it.

Only had one small issue....as I made the final turn to the Mariott, the 1st/2nd rod retainer clip somehow removed itself off the shifter leaving me locked in first to drive the (luckily) remaining 500 feet into the Mariott parking lot. I borrowed a floor jack from a trailed ride, verified the issue and used Brother Johns car to drive to Jegs a few miles down the interstate for a package of retainers. Back in business for the return trip later in the evening in less than 30 minutes.

Oh yeah....I left my blue chair in the Mariott packing lot. Hopefully Big D Hoosh (he lives less than 10 miles away) will drive over and retrieve it for me and bring it to The Nats.
