A-Bodies...Big Motors / New Hemi Duster - FINAL ASSEMBLY

-
Ben Dunhoff is the current owner and also the guy that put my slant 6 together for me !!
......and maybe that is what he should stick to doing.

True, it's his car, but he is the custodian of one of the most historically significant
Mopar race cars on the planet and I would appreciate it if he treated it
with the respect it deserves.

Until he correctly locates the front axle centerline, paints it in the proper colors and installs the right wheels and hood scoop (among other things), he is a persona-non-grata in my book.

Tell him how you really feel Doc!

I believe that I can truly appreciate his sentiments.

I am actually personally offended by the way that car has been
represented over the last few years.

It' not my car but there seems to be some kind of responsibility
to preserving the history that is so important to me.

Thanks a lot for drawing attention to its value....now I will never be able to afford it
I know....in my dreams

I agree with your sentiments 110%

Sort of. More a gathering of parts at this point. I do have a
Mopar Performance crate Hemi (425 hp) that I will put their
aluminum heads on and a larger camshaft in.

Had a 68 Cuda fastback (junk - too rusty) and a couple of
other candidates that needed way too much work.

I'm not in a hurry. I'll know the car when I see it.

I'm thinking camshaft change for the silver one....any suggestions?

I have appx 9.7 to one compression....but good stuff thru-out
just want to bump it up a notch but keep it VERY street friendly

Ultimately a Comp hydraulic roller of approx 530 - 560 lift. Still plenty
mild for this engine. With the alum heads, headers and a 900 or so
carb it should be a satisfying and reliable street engine with plenty
of usable power on pump gas.

I'm afraid that the aluminum heads, roller cam, roller rocker set, carb
and headers will set me back probably 5 grand. Gotta have it though.

can't believe Brother John hasn't weighed in yet with his cam recommendation

.......cam recommendation
I'm in with the hydraulic roller....any size, but for me the bigger, the better.
Even the biggest one of those isn't to much for the street with a manual trans.

I recommend the Comp Cams Hydraulic Roller Retrofit Cam .549/.544

This cam will make power from about 2500-6500. The .549/.544" lift
and 242 intake and 248 exhaust duration at .050" allows for nice low
end power without giving up strong pulling up top.

wait till you see his fleet.....nothing out of the box either (he, Weeb, and I have that breed into us). All modified to more closely resemble the actual car.

Needs to build a Wire car....and where is my silver Duster die-cast???

i've seen pictures of most of his diecasts on The Diecast Pub, he does great work. i'm still waiting to see pictures of your Duster diecast, when he FINALLY gets it done :banghead:

:violent2:

I like this cam....... I also think you could use a bump in compression..... aluminum heads and block ....... you have a little more flexibility, even for the street. PLus being a stick car...........

Just sent the front carb out for replacement/repair

I'll see how it runs when I get it back on......maybe I will warm it up a tad
What cam is in your ride...specs?

I think that the green cars motor.......with the cylinder heads it had.......
was only a camshaft away from 650 hp.....the current owner has no clue.

found the (front) carb had a mega oversized jet in the drivers side primary....marked correctly, unfortunately drilled wrong. no wonder since day one i thought the thing was rich.....tried leaning it down....and it ran like it was starving for fuel.

hope the weather holds off.... can't wait to test drive it

isnt hot rodding fun!

when I was younger, it keep my mind off sex....now, it keeps my mind off the bastards in DC.....yes, I'm still bitter about Tuesday

I woke up this morning re-installing the carb in my mind ....imagine that???

If your asking if I would change it in the Barracuda I say no...... IT is scary fast.... and I'm not really a drag racer. If your asking me if you should change your cam I say no. Not until you get it runnning correct with what you have. Then again, I'm just a pizza maker.

my plan exactly......do not go to step 2...until you have completed step 1
