..maybe.

And maybe what I think I know is 'less than'.

This is a true statement: 'Any 4-pin ignition module will work (operate/start/run/fire/motate) in any vehicle that runs with a 4-pin ignition system.'

No snooker intended, no catch, no got'cha, no 'over 8,000rpm'.

Is it true?

A 4-pin module can be used on a 4-pin or 5-pin harness
A 5-pin module MUST be used on a 5-pin harness

A 4-pin module can be used with a single ballast
A 5-pin module MUST be used with a dual ballast

The original 5-pin modules had two different voltages being fed to them, 12v and a reduced voltage from the ballast.
The 4-pin modules did the voltage drop in the module.

Thanks! That matches with what I've understood for years.

I just bought a 4-pin module to use as another spare, my last 4-pin replacement having lasted six years: The newly purchased NOS unit (not Mopar branded) did not work. The NOS module I bought did not match make/model/year-wise but that is not anything I've considered a problem in the past.

I was checking for backup when the seller says, 'No wonder it didn't work, you didn't put it in the car it was supposed to fit into.'

Please, Sir, may I have a REAL Standard LX101 or a REAL Blue Streak module? Maybe one that even has a REAL TO3 with a REAL 'M' badge on it? I'll pay in REAL $$! :)

If you die on the road and swap another Mopar box THEY MUST BE GROUNDED

Another route you can go, and a couple guys here have gutted Mopar modules to hide them inside, is a GM HEI module. Same connections, electrically, as a 4 pin Mopar. No ballast needed AND IF YOU LEAVE THE KEY ON the GM modules do not draw coil current

Make sure distributor pickup is hooked as shown/ polarity
