AFR Heads

Yes, per head. I’d love to see an offset rocker version with open chambers and W2 exhaust ports.

I’m curious if that chamber would clear a TRW dome. Looks like a potentially closer fit than the other aluminum head options out there with some .060 gaskets.

Hum, I wonder. It sorta looks like all the rest.
I don't doubt the quality will be up there along with the Trick Flow.
I take it, the AFR head is not CNC ported so there's room to grow.

$1800 vs $714. I sure hope they’re 2x better than the speedmasters. $500 less than TFS.

SM is $1011 for the pair. $714 on Black Friday weekend every year like clockwork.

You get's what's ya pay for.
If I'm buying a small block head it's Trick Flow, though AFR offering a version could make me rethink a little.

$598/head bare. Not quite SM Black Friday prices, but not terrible. I noticed Melling hydraulic roller spring is on the list of standard parts, 140 pounds seat with .600 max lift.

I’ll follow in PBRs light, these are the best conventional heads you can buy for the money.

Yea after John got done with them. I chatted with John over the years, it ain't cheap to get a Speedmaster to Trick Flow specs and quality.
Do you know how to port, do a valve job, check springs, guides? is the deck surface flat?

With the talk of the water jetting, I'd like to be one of the first to have one of the bare heads put on the bandsaw and see how much material there is to work with. I did notice the warning about not cutting the valve spring seats any deeper.

Even though the springs are listed as Melling on AFR's website, I found another vendor (LS oriented, of course!) that lists them as a PAC made spring. I would like to know the diameter of the valve pockets and if 1.550 springs would be an option or they could be enlarged safely to fit. Here are the spring spec's.

You can thank Kommiefornika for all that nonsense.
it's not just the land of fruits and nuts.

companies do this to skirt DOT certification and safety testing. same with the whole "not for use on pollution controlled vehicles. getting stuff approved and certified for CARB is crazy expensive.

I know. But that's where it started. Every stinkin bit of it. People should be able to do what they want with THEIR property.
