AFR SBM Heads, Just got back from PRI

Took a couple photos of the new AFR heads for smallblock Mopars. I didn't talk to them and have no idea how they are any different from what's already currently available. I also checked out the ProMaxx stuff. J.Rob

Not smallblock but I am all of a sudden wanting to build an all aluminum 655 cube big block. The 600-13 heads we absolute drool worthy. J.Rob

Seems like a lot of SBM heads have accumulated into the market.

Too bad no one has seen the market for a stock looking one like 440 Source does for big blocks.

AFR has been cutting edge for Chevy and Ford for a long time. I want to see some flow numbers.
 
@RAMM I know you fingered the short side on those small block heads. What are your initial opinions?

I was more curious about the AFR but a comparison between them would be awesome. The short side (from your pics) does look different but it’s hard to tell if they’re the same casting

The AFR's did not appear or feel any different than the Speedmasters. The ProMaxx's claimed to flow 285cfm I think thats reasonable. The S.S. on the ProMaxx's were not as murdered as I've seen in the past but not great either. I was more excited to see all the stuff for the G3's and there was plenty. J.Rob
 
I got all excited when I saw this in the "New products show case". Soon, I realized somebody switched the plaque for the small block mopar heads and put in front of the new enforcer sbc heads. Got me, for just a second. lol

Going by AFR's performance in other areas, I'd expect their heads to be as trick as possible. Any pictures of any noteworthy Third Gen heads or new blocks?
 
I looked on the AFR website the other day. No numbers for the cnc small block heads.
Non cnc heads had similar flow numbers as the non cnc promaxx heads.
 
Both SB heads look like the readily available generic/offshore castings with whatever proprietary CNC program each vendor uses. If so, they are a somewhat common recipe these days offered by several small-to-medium size vendors. Most are around the same price dependent on what type of valvetrain parts you want.

If these castings can accommodate decent airflow (290+) then the offset rocker type of head gets less and less appealing. For an all-out race motor these are not the answer but for the street/strip crowd these are a good choice.

Companies should be aware of not offering too many redundant products though. I know of at least 5-6 vendors you can get this type of head from right now.
 
Do the Promaxx come ready to bolt on a SBM? Or just as,shown here ported. Price range?
As an owner of a set, yes, after you double check them just to be sure. Mine were good to go. Very nice work. There CNC program is conservative but good. Another 15, 15+ cfm of flow is possible.

My machinist put in better stem seals and polished the valve stems. They said they surfaced the head for better head gasket sealing.

You'd think. But I bet, as usual for us Mopar guys, that's not the case. LOL
