AFR SBM heads (supposedly)

How does the short turn look on the intake? Is it bowl hogged like the AFR?

Feels lowish normal to me with a very slight as cast bump that could be blended out. Not hogged out from the vj.
Think I’m going to very subtly blend the bowls and if I can find a good machine shop around here, have a nice vj done for 2.055 ferrea valves.

The SSR looks different between those two to me.

Here’s some speculation……..
Maybe AFR had the casting tweaked to put more meat on the SSR so they’d have more to work with when they cnc them.
And when they’re not cnc’d you get……as PBR used to say….Herman Munsters forehead.

I agree. Looks like the AFR has a taller short turn. There is more metal there. I wonder if they are getting their own casing?

Yeah looking at the afr pic again, the SM ssr seems more laid back and shorter as cast.

Seems like that would be ideal.

If you mean this cut right here, 1.833”

That's about the same as mine were last year. I sure wish they would leave them a little smaller than that for the 2.02. Your choice of 2.055 should work good. Gives a little room for hand work before the throat gets too large.

That view of the SM head looks just like the bowl cut on the AFR. Hmm....
