How does the short turn look on the intake? Is it bowl hogged like the AFR?

Yeah, that looks better.Feels lowish normal to me with a very slight as cast bump that could be blended out. Not hogged out from the vj.
Think I’m going to very subtly blend the bowls and if I can find a good machine shop around here, have a nice vj done for 2.055 ferrea valves.

I agree. Looks like the AFR has a taller short turn. There is more metal there. I wonder if they are getting their own casing? The SSR looks different between those two to me.

Here’s some speculation……..
Maybe AFR had the casting tweaked to put more meat on the SSR so they’d have more to work with when they cnc them.
And when they’re not cnc’d you get……as PBR used to say….Herman Munsters forehead.
Could be. The SM has plenty to work with on the SS as is, so your heads are good. Can you measure the throat width? I’m wondering if they are different from one year ago.Seems like that would be ideal.

That's about the same as mine were last year. I sure wish they would leave them a little smaller than that for the 2.02. Your choice of 2.055 should work good. Gives a little room for hand work before the throat gets too large.
How about the bowl width, about even with the guide?
