Because nobody makes 15" performance tires anymore, I am upgrading to 17s-looking for a set of 17x7, going on a Duster. I'm not really sure what style I want, I'm open to almost anything.

I'm in New England...the closer the better, but I am willing to pay shipping or drive somewhere to get the right wheels.

If they have good tires, that's even better.
 
If you’re on a budget Mustang wheels. If you really just want anything in a 17” look at Cragar Soft 8’s. Around $90 a wheel I believe. Big weight penalty though. They have mopar friendly backspacing, at least on my 70 cuda. Now I’m running an 18/19 combo.
Yokohama makes really good $$$ friendly tires in 17.

I agree.

Been a bunch of years but I bought some 17x8 wheels for a '97 GT and spent $90 in total for all 4. They don't match (different color in the spokes) but most people don't notice. You would have to open up the center a little and might have to run a 1/4" spacer and longer wheel studs but other than that they should bolt on.

Get some decent 245/45R17's and you should be good.

Sorry I can't help with an actual set of wheels but I would watch CL and MP for a set of wheels of a '95-04 Mustang GT. Look for a 17x8 +30 wheel.

Oh, you might need a wider rear axle too. Forgot about that.
 
He might have an 8.25 rear being a 73 and those are even more narrow. At the very least a spring relocation may be required.

Yeah, the axle is a trouble spot. I run an F-Body 8.25" because it is about the same width as a '65-67 B-Body and it work well. But a stock A-Body axle of any size might have a problem with the +30 wheels.

I was kind of focused on the front setup and forgot about the rear axle until the end. But he isn't going to find a 17" Mustang wheel with less offset that I am aware of. And anything that has less offset isn't going to work as well in the front with a 245 tire.
 
Don't forget that a rear disk brake kit will add width as well. The drums are only like 1/16" thick at the axle flange while a disk is more like 1/4" at that location.

I've got a layout from years ago where I was trying to figure out what wheel and tire I could run and that layout shows 58" OA. It's been enough years that I am not sure where I got that number though. I will see if I can get a measurement off the 8.25" in my '73 in a couple of days.

Not planning on rear discs.

I wonder if I should figure radically different offsets in front and back, due to the track difference.

If you are buying aftermarket and have the option, different offsets would make it more bolt on for sure.

If you want cheap and/or used and easily available (e.g. Mustang), you might need spacers in the back depending on what you find if you want to keep your current axle.

Might be worth doing some figuring and determine your current backspacing/offset so you can get an idea of what might fit.

I'm thinking I may end up that route. The Dusters have such different tracks that anything else will be limited on fit and/or look incredibly weird.

I understand that. I am ok with spaces that slide over the wheel studs, but not bolt on ones that have their own wheel studs. To each there own, but I don't want to run them.

That's why I went to an F-Body 8.25. It allowed me to use cheap Mustang wheels without spacers, and the cost was significantly less than an 8.75.

If they are similar to the cop car 15x7, offset is like +1/4". With a 235 series tire, that would have about 4.875" from the mounting surface to the back of the tire. What size rear tire right now?

How much room between the tire and spring at the front of the tire?

Any idea what size tire you would like to run?
