Yea, we had everything in the yard back then, GG1's, F9's, E8's, F40's, P40's, RS1's. My wife and i travel by rail all the time, mostly NE corridor WAS-BOS Acela, but we've gone WAS-SEA (Capital Limited-Empire Builder) SEA-SAC (Coastal Starlight) SAC-CHI (California Zephyr) WAS-FLA (Auto train and Palmetto) taken the Hiawatha many times.

I would've loved to be able to be there and hang out with GG-1's, and all the F's and E's.... Im a steam lover, but my favorite deisels are the F's and E's... (love the GG1's because I am a huge PRR fan)

that is sooo cool ....my favorite locomotive brand (if its possible to have one) are the ALCO built ones ....The PA-1 has always been my favorite. They have such a unique look with the square nose, they look more muscle than the GM with the round headlight IMO.

Either way, this is awesome :D

The old yard engines we had were Alco's RS1's. those straight 4 stroke 6 cyl. would pull anything. There's one in one of my pictures (loco #43) pulling a string of cars to the car wash (picture with van in it). Loved working on those and one of the few loco's you could actually roll start when the batteries were dead. To bad we couldn't get parts for them anymore. That's what ended their life.

Personally, I like the odd Milwaukee road electric engines the "little Joe" and EF/EP series. They have a little joe on display in deer lodge and a ef1 in Harlowtown.

... and the best part is after years and years of work, they got the engine to run for about half an hour last month.

I was stoked to see NS step up and donate all that money (ironic considering it was their decision in 93 to kill off the steam program and mothball the 611 in the 1st place). It had already been announced that they had already secured enough money to restore 611 before the NS donation came through. They were trying to secure the funds needed to build her a permanent home/workshop... Hopefully that donation put them over the top. I can't wait to see her steam again.. Never got to see her in person before she was retired,... Not too often we get second chances in life... I'll be trackside waiting

I too hope it will make a trip up to PA someday. I believe my brother caught it somewhere in the early 1990's still doing excursion trips. I have a set of his pictures and will have to dig them up and scan them to the computor.

Well I was rummaging around looking for picture's of the 611 my brother took, but they are of the N&W 1218.
Found a pretty cool You-tube video of the 611 stalling on a 4.6% grade.

I see my favorite road in there ...The Rock Island.

when I still had my model railroad stuff, I made a fictitious road called the "New Rock Island" and in the layout it had a route through the Colorado Rockies namely Moffat tunnel and through Leaville and Vail down to Canon city and then out east towards the Kansas border ( not a real route) and I also had a plow and some tunnel motors for extra traction boost in service and a crane. good times with the stuff and a bit of imagination. :D:D

You have proven time and again that you do have an imagination. Just never lose it.

Derailments are part of the RR business. Brings another level of excitement and anticipation as you watch them run. Test you heart as you turn up the speed to find "the edge".

Neither are our cars but we still take them out on the road where there's greater dangers.
