Another Mopar Off My Bucket List - Barracuda Fastback

-
I don't remember exactly how much I paid for the ones I bought but I think it was around $60-80 each.

Tell your son I said thanks. I always figure that a Chrysler household is never complete unless the Mopars outnumber the occupants.

I tried to get in touch with metro mopar and I tried to locate the trim. It seems as though he is out of stock on almost everything but antennas. Of which I deleted from the car so I don't need one of those. I'm using a remote, hidden antenna,
I'll keep trying. they might answer back in a few days. After all it is a weekend. I'd love to get ahold of the trim at the price you paid. It's probably a pipe dream but dreams can come true, If not I'll just have to wait on getting the trim till I have saved up for the very expensive but necessary pieces.
Have a great rest of the weekend!

As far as the Mopar count in our house hold, we have four but most likely we will be adding to the collection. I hope....

It's an addiction you know. :drinkers:

But my Father told me it was a necessity. Addictions arn't usually wanted but necessities are ALWAYS sought after. Although additions are usually more expensive. I'm so confused.......
I guess I;ll keep adding to the numbers and decide what is what later. L.O.L!!!!
:protest::banghead::banghead::burnout:

Well I'll be leaving for another swap meet in a few more hours. I always get panicky when I go to them. There's that voice in the back of my head that keeps telling me that all the bargains and cool stuff will get bought up before I get a chance to see them. It's rare that I ever find anything that I am specifically looking for but I hate to come home empty handed.

When I get the opportunity to go to them I get the same way. I find myself being several hours early waiting for the gates to open and then I leave empty handed. We don't get to many swap meets around these parts and when there is one it usually is all Ford and Chevy stuff. I have yet to find any A-body Mopar stuff. It's slim pickens here in the Left coast. Good luck on the scavenger hunt and don't throw out your shoulder wrestling for that highly sought after part. L.O.L!!!:prayer:

Alcoholics have AA for a support group. We have FABO. The problem is that our support group only encourages the habit.

My nightmare would be seeing someone wheeling a 426 out (with a $50 price tag still on it) in a wheelbarrow as I'm walking in. Maybe I should try to get there earlier...

Damn, you've got me outnumbered! I guess it's time to look for another. Maybe MA Mopar should be an acronym for Mopars Anonymous.

I got back from the swap meet a few hours ago. It really looked like slim pickings. We got there early enough that most of the vendors hadn't set up yet. Most swap meets around here let the guys selling stuff set their parts up in the wee hours beforehand. We were there for almost an hour before there was much to see. They allowed the vendors to set up wherever they chose so they were scattered over the large fairgrounds. It meant a lot of walking back and forth through sparsely occupied areas until it eventually filled up.

I hadn't bought anything the first 2 times through the swap meet. In desperation I decided to give it another try. My main goals are to search for the type of things I couldn't afford otherwise, buy things that I really do need, and to never come home empty handed.

I did buy a puller to replace the harmonic balancer that I had lost. - That I needed. It was two bucks.

img_5012-jpg.jpg

I was in dire need of a spare tire for the Ford truck. - At $10 it was cheaper than what I'd have had to pay elsewhere.

I came across some linkage for a two four setup. The bell cranks are there and I know how expensive the parts can be. It wasn't complete but I felt it was well worth the $20 I gave.

img_5011-jpg.jpg

One of the vendors had a tall stack of JOHN DEERE decals. After my buddy finagled him down to $3 for a pair of them, I decided it was cheap enough that I could possibly use the first half of them to put my name on the racecar. - If nothing else, - my toolbox.

img_5013-jpg.jpg

For another two bucks I bought myself a cap. - Not a necessity but the price was right.

img_5014-jpg.jpg

We were ready to leave and I hadn't made any big scores. I may not have had my hopes up too high beforehand but I thought I would have fared better.

That's when we noticed that a couple more late comer vendors had shown up. They were a long distance away and I figured we might as well look at what they had.

From a distance I could see a pair of fenders. The closer we got I started to make out what was written on the piece of tape that was affixed to them.

'CHARGER FENDERS $225'

They were fiberglass fenders for '68-'69 Chargers. Just last week my son had told me that he was considering replacing his new AMD fenders with fiberglass ones. I tried talking him out of the idea and he hadn't made up his mind. I struggled with what to do.

They were new but had already been edged with green paint and bolted to the guy's car. He decided not to use them when he found a pair of repairable steel fenders and pulled them back off. The price was great if we were going to use them but I didn't want to buy them and have to resell if my son stayed with his AMDs. I explained my dilemma to the seller and told him that if we didn't use them we'd probably be selling them at the big Mopar show in Omaha later this year. He said that was fine with him and he came down to $175 for the pair.

img_5010-jpg.jpg

When I got home I checked online for the price on them. They were made by VFN Fiberglass and listed for $675 plus truck freight. Then I called my son. Without revealing that I'd bought them I asked him if he'd decided anything about front fenders. He said that he made up his mind to make the switch. - So he was pretty happy when I told him I'd bought him the pair. It's about time we saved some bucks on a purchase for his car. I know we'll probably take a bath on the AMDs when we sell them but at least it won't sting so much after the deal on these 'glass ones.

It's coming down in buckets here right now. I don't mind the rain now since the swap meet is over but we're also getting some hail. So far it's been small enough that it isn't causing any damage. The vehicles are all out in the weather so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I should have expected the rain. We were washing the Sebring when it started. Man what a mess that car was. It's Teresa's daily driver and she hauls her grandkids around in it. When my dad had cows and would haul them to the salesbarn it was my job to wash out the cattle truck afterwards. They didn't make as much of a mess. As nice as Teresa is I think her grandchildren were spawned by Satan.

LOL :glasses7:

I really felt uneasy about buying those fenders. If I was a flipper I might not have hesitated. But I hate speculating on parts that we 'might' need. They end up cluttering the garage until I run across someone that's looking for them. - And then I usually sell them at a loss.

My son's car is gonna be a really nice build. He's certain that he wants to paint the car black. Although I'm satisfied with the fiberglass fenders I put on the 'Cuda, I've seen 'glass panels show signs of distortion as they age. On a black car I think it'd really become noticeable.

I think that part of his reasoning for wanting to swap out his fenders is that right now I'm the big dog here for horsepower/speed. His Roadrunner is perky but it doesn't slam you back in the seat the way my Duster or Barracuda do. His Challenger is no slouch either but it still wouldn't be a match for either of my cars.

I have no doubt that his Charger will be faster. I think he wants to make sure that he'll be in a league WAY beyond me when it's done.

Anybody in the market for some new AMD Charger fenders?

Yeah, I love swap meets, Sometimes I'd rather walk those then the car shows.lol.

Yup, car shows get old real fast.

I wished we had swap meets around here!
All we get are garbage sales. I.E. Garage sales of pure crap.
Nice score John!

I've cut back on the number of swap meets that I go to. They used to be 90% car parts. Now they're 20% car parts, 20% tools, 10% yard equipment, and 50% garage sale items.

Most of the car parts that do show up are either for GM or are in such poor condition that you'd be better off buying new instead.

One other score we made at the swap meet was a set of tail light bezels for my buddy's '71 GTX. I'm sure I overlook some good stuff as I'm winding through the aisles but they just happened to catch my eye. Ray (my buddy that went with me) got them down to $25 for the pair. It was his '71 GTX that we'd installed the headliner in a few weeks back. He was going to run his car without any because one of his was mangled. He also managed to find a pair of very nice 15 X 7 Magnum 500s for $60. They didn't have center caps but the chrome was good with no rust or pitting.

Whenever we go to swap meets together we joke about who will spend the most and come home with the biggest scores. He was winning until I found those fenders.

Looks to me you both did real well. Thanks to the Obummer cash for cars, all the tree huggers sent there old cars to the scrappers to the crushers. Very high numbers from what I'm told. Just think, ALL those old GM cars are now Dodge R/T's... L.O.L!!!!

After the cash for clunkers plan was implemented I know a few guys that were able to intercept some Mopar muscle on it's way to the crushers. But the cars had been stacked. They were still good for parts but would have been salvageable otherwise.

I have a buddy down in Arizona that is thinking about buying a '73 Challenger. It's a one owner 318 slapstick car with around 70,000 miles on it. The lady that owns it told him that she wants to get the money for it that she paid when she bought it new. $3500. He said the interior is baked and there's some rust started next to the rear window where the vinyl top is.

I never liked the grill design on the '73s but still... It may not be the holy grail but that's got to be a heck of a good price. Those deals are still out there but they're hard to find. I need another project like a hole in the head but I'd have a hard time passing up that first gen Challenger.

Now and then I'll still see a classic Mopar musclecar being sent off to be destroyed. Usually it's someone cleaning out an acreage that had a bunch of cars parked in the trees. As a lot of the small farms are bought up by the big farmers they'll clear everything off the property that had remained. 20 years ago there was a heck of a lot more vintage tin lurking in those old homesteads.

I will take the Challenger for 3500 if no one wants it... :D

I tried talking my buddy down in Arizona into pulling the trigger on it. I haven't seen pictures yet but if it's as nice as it sounds I don't see how he could go wrong.

He's on the tail end of restoring a '69 Roadrunner 440 4-speed car and lost enthusiasm over it. His dream had been to have a '68 Charger R/T and he sounds as if he wishes he'd stuck his efforts into getting one instead. He's still on the fence about the Challenger. It doesn't sound as though the price is the issue. At his age I don't think he wants to invest his time on another car that hasn't been his dream to own.

I've never pried any of the details about the car's location from him. I know I'm not in the market for another project now either. It sounds as though he could flip the car with a clear conscience. The woman is adamant that all she wants for it is what she'd paid for it when new. One of four things are likely to happen.

1) Someone else will buy and flip it because the price is low.
2) Someone that buys it will drive it as is and torture the rest of the life out of it.
3) Someone will buy it and bring it back to full glory for themselves.
4) The car will sit and deteriorate until she passes away.

As long as he gives her the asking price I think he could make himself a tidy profit on it and not feel as though he had finagled her to sell it too cheap just so he could pocket the profits. After all, she's going to sell it to someone at that price anyway. - It might as well be him.
