When I went back and re-read that comment it dawned on me that some of the younger members may not be familiar with the use of the term 'cherries' as a synonym for law enforcement with their lights flashing. A few of them may have taken it as an indication that I'm prowling around looking for under age girls. While I do not deny I have a tendency to ogle women, I'm not a perv or any other member of government.

Yeah, I guess you could take that term either way, of course now a days,the law have become tricky and mount the lights inside. And a lot of these young girls look like they are a lot older then they really are!:wack:

As far as the way that young girls look nowadays, I agree. They all want to look older than their age. Give them about ten more years and they'll all be trying to look younger than they are. I'm glad I had boys.

Awesome!!!! The itch to get it on the road has to be getting pretty strong now.
I HATE header installation. If your old set are designed anything like mine you had to run your steering linkage through the primary tubes. I'm surprised you didn't wait for the new set to show up.
I don't have any experience with shorty headers. I assume you won't have to fight the steering linkage with them. I had to dent my new long tube headers to clear my steering box. I hated marring that new ceramic finish. I had never considered shorty headers but if yours go in easy I'm sure I'll wish I had.
It's a slow go on the house. The last few days were tough. Most of the siding on the house is in good shape and we'll be able to scrape and paint. - But the south side has been bare for so long that it's weather worn. I've had to sand it because the wood grain is so raised now. Between a jitterbug sander and a belt sander it's finally getting back to being a paint-able surface.
I said before that this house is big as a barn. It's actually barn shaped too.
I still have to repair a lot of damage from vandals on the rear porch. Someone stopped by as I was working today and asked about buying the house as it is right now. I told them they'd have to talk to Teresa. As much as I'd like to get my time in the garage back, I'd also like to see this project through to the end also. I'm sure she'd only get a fraction of it's worth out of it in the condition it's in now. She's still debating what to do.

I did get a bit of time in the garage after getting back from working on the house. Yesterday the new compressor and brackets arrived from Bouchillon Performance Engineering. Their bracket allows a compressor to be mounted below the alternator as opposed to above the motor. With the blower it's hard to find a good mounting location.
Their mounts are $159.95. You don't get a lot for the money. They are powder coated steel and sturdy enough that they should work OK for us. The instructions are NOT well written but if you're willing to re-read them carefully a few times you can decipher how to assemble it.
These brackets were designed to be used with the factory non-air alternator brackets and engine pulleys. Unfortunately we'd already installed new billet aluminum brackets so we will have to make some modifications to get things to align.
So far I've been testing with Spencer's 400 block that doesn't have a crank in it yet. Soon I'll be transferring the components to the other 400 that we'd borrowed so I can install the crank pulleys.

I realize that some of the stuff I do is pretty rinky-dink. The motor that we'd borrowed to be our test mule for assembling accessories is pretty sad. Most of the oil was gone because the pan was rusted out. Even though we tried to get as much of the rust and scum off it still looks rough. The silver paint that we rattle canned over it was just an experiment to see if we'd like to paint our 512 that color. The silver should make it easier to see if we have any clearance issues with K-member and our accessories. It was a can of cheap household enamel.
I used my $2 swap meet puller to remove the harmonic balancer. As rusty as that motor was I'd expected it to put up a fight but it didn't. I don't have another stand use so I disassembled the 512 block and put the 400 core engine on it's stand.
Our 512 block is pretty clean.
The core block is full of tarry oil.
We won't be able to run a mechanical fuel pump. One of the brackets for the compressor acts as a block of plate for the fuel pump.
It doesn't look as bad after I started hanging our parts on it. The Edelbrock heads had to be bolted on so that we would be certain that ALL of our parts were going to work together. I don't want to chance a mis-alignment during this process. The Milodon oil pan went on too. I'll have to be certain that it clears the new K-member.
That's a lot of stuff to hang on the front yet.
As I added the components I could see that I'm going to have a nightmare getting all the pulleys to align.
I suppose it's unreasonable to expect anyone to make a kit that has all the brackets made that would have had all of our pulleys align. I'll be banging my head against the wall for days trying to change bushing/spacer lengths.

Lol. I do this "pulley align" on almost a weekly ritual. NOTHING EVER FITS PERFECT!!!. Sometimes you want to find the designer and nut-punch them.....

Pully alignment isnt to bad when its all stock. What you have going there is an off set, misaligned juggernaut. I'm confident you will have it sorted out in no time. I think your wired that way. A puzzle solver. If nothing else a puzzle piece jamer. If it dont fit, make it fit.

It feels like I'm working with the pieces from 3 different puzzles that were never supposed to make one single picture when completed. It'd be cool to have easy access to a machine shop with mills and lathes (that did work on demand cheaply). I'll muttle my way through it. Right now it appears as though the blower pulleys will need to come forward (on crank & blower snout) at least an inch in order to have room for the v-belts. That means I'll have at least an inch less room for the 4-core radiator. I'm already picturing the need to move the radiator wall forward. I hope not.
