Another rear tire size question and advice needed.

Need some advice on rear tires for my 73 Plymouth.Duster I currently have l60 15 On the rear now , with 15x8 4.5 rally wheels with a one inch spacer. I want to remove the spacer and put The widest tire I can Without it hitting the inner lip on the rear quarter. New rear springs and shocks...no air shocks...using longer shackles..at the moment.. i want to use stock shackles...ive done several searches for tires sizes and they are all over the place. I read a 255 60 15 or 235 60 15 .275 60 15...would work.. Advice would be appreciated

I have done that and like I said it's been all over the place.
I'm just trying to save time and money... I have not owned a body long enough to know what the max size that I can put on there without changing anything.. I know it's been talked about a lot.
 
So after quite a bit of time searching again the best I can find is 255 60 15...with stock springs and no spacers or adapter and15x8 4.5 rally will work and not rub anywhere...lol but still not sure

Let's identify your rearend. Sounds like it is the original 8-1/4". I'm in the same boat as you as I have a 1973 Duster with a 15x8 Rallye, 4.5" bs, 8.25" rear. I am using much less than 1" spacer. It's 3/8" iirc. Stock spring location. I have 255/60-15 (27") which is max for us.

My remedy is to upgrade to the wider 8.75" rear. There goes the spacer and room for 275/60-15 (28"). Then, maybe custom 15x9 with a 295/50 (26.65).

Offset Spring Hangers are another option for you to keep the 8-1/4 or use them in conjunction with a wide rearend.

With the l60 15 that's on there now...it rubs on large bumps just slightly.. I want to be able to put a tire on there and put The stock rear shackles on and get rid of the 1" adapter...your car is sharp btw
 
So, do you think with my current situation?If I use a 255 60 15 I could get rid of the one inch Is adapter and put The stock shackles on and get the back end down?
 
Thanks, My 255's will be a c-hair away from the spring (stock location ) and would 100% rub at the slightest without the spacers. I have to have the 3/8" spacer and would go more but I have the factory lugs. On my 8-3/4 I'm getting longer studs for any future combos.

I think you'll be good with stock springs/shackles, 3/8" spacer and the 4.5" bs. on a 255/60-15.
 
Let me measure my spacer tomorrow. It might be less than 3/8. Don't order any part yet! LOL

No on the spacer deal. Probably Summit or a local tire/wheel shop

I kinda made it originally sound like they would slightly rub WITH the spacer but it's good. Still don't feel good about short factory wheel studs though.
 
So today I had a little time so I switched out the l sixties which are equivalent to 275 60 15 with 255 60 15... When back on the ground there is a little more than a quarter inch on the driver side and a quarter inch on the passenger side from the tire hitting the spring..... I'm thinking it will rub..so in talks with someone about a spacer....

Do you still need me to pull a wheel and measure my spacer? Im sure that we pretty much have the same set up (8.25, 15x8(4.5" bs), 255/60-15).
You can probably figure out what thickness you need now that you have a 255 on the wheel.

Iam thinking that like you...a 3/8 spacer and the 1/4 I have will give me 5/8. Hopefully that's enough..ty ty for your help
 
flathead, I have 8" 4.5 b/s with 245/60/15's on my 74 Duster with the 8 1/4 rear and everything fits really nice. The tire is nice and tall too. I think 255's would fit but be very close.

Your car looks amazing.Yeah those 255 60 15 I have a little more than a quarter inch.On the driver side and ride out a quarter inch on the passenger side before the tire hits the Spring.But I'm gonna go ahead and use a 38 spacer that gives me 5/8 of an inch.I think that'll be enough
